Max Bonaventure Class Starship

Hi!

This is a project I've been working on for some time. I saw the Bonaventure class in a thread where someone was posting his progress on it. I couldn't resist the temptation of trying to model it myself.

It is an original design made by a guy (can't remember his name) for the book 'Ships Of The Line'. There isn't many reference material available so it may not be very accurate. There's still a lot of work to do, but this is what I have so far.

C&C.

This design has been getting some attention lately by a number of folks. Your version looks great. My only crit is in the square windows but I think they all seem to have them. Of course, I;ve done my fair share of square windows too .

What's left to do? Just texture and then fly around?

That which does not kill me only postpones the inevitable!

Good work so far.

I think the detail lines on the ‘stardrive’ section looks a little generic, I’d consider if there’s anything else to make it a little more interesting like the detailing on the saucer.

As for Helot’s comment about the windows, all’s I can add is if you’re factoring ENT into the design then it’d be better to curve them somewhat. But even if that’s not the case it may still add a little something to the design.

I was probably the one you saw with the Bonnie's WIP thread. I agree with Helot that your take on her is quite nice- most especially the saucer section. And I REALLY dig what you've done with the aft section- the placement of the impulse engines directly on the aft end of the engineering section is truly inspired and I kinda wish that I'd thought of doing that.

You're right in that there isn't much reference material for this ship. I could only find two really useful reference pics (the one from the "Ships of the Line" book/calendar and the top-down ortho shot that the original designer had put out) and the rest I had to come up with on my own.

I'm particularly interested in seeing what you're going to do with the underside and textures.

By the way... if you have any questions or want to pick my brain for anything, please let me know. I'd be more than happy to assist or offer suggestions in whatever way I can.

Actually, I need to figure out how the underside part is. There isn't a single picture showing how it is

Well, the thing is that one of the things I like about this ship is it's simplicity. It really looks like an early-TOS era ship. Anyways I will add more detail in the textures.

Yes, that's possible

I think the key of this design is that it perfectly mixes the styles of the NX-01 and the original Enterprise. That's why I thought that the impulse drive should look similar to the one from the Connie. It also makes more interesting the aft side of the ship.

Yes, those are the two reference pics I have.

BTW, your ship looks GREAT!

Well, to be honest, I still have no idea how the underside is going to be like.

The Bonaventure always reminded me of a U-Boat for some reason. I can't wait to see what you do with textures. Keep up the great work.

Are you going to be angling back the nacelle pylons like on the original?
Looking awesome so far.
