Hehe sorry. With a second magnified look I can clearly see it is just an animatic. And I spose doing more then your machine can handle is asking a bit much... It looks to be coming along nicely.

I think the Nebulon/medical ship should be larger though. Maybe nearly as large as the Calamarian ship in the background. I cant be sure though.

Hehe, no, the sizes of the ships are right. I looked them up carefully and scaled the models before putting them on scene. The Nebulon Frigate is 300 m long, and that Mon Calamari Cruiser is about 1300 m. The perspective can be confusing, but in the final render it would be clearer (the fighters cast shadows on the large ships, the lasers and explosions lit them, etc.)

Ok, I added some lasers and a little explosion and I'm rendering a "final" version now.

That will be the first time I use lasers and explosions in an animation —in fact, this is my second animation

So I'll let the computer render during this night, and hopefully tomorrow I'll post the result.

Meanwhile, here's another big render

At last!!

After 20 hours of render here's that 4 second scene...

DOWNLOAD, 1.7 MB

Additional credits:
- X-wing by Dr. Harry Chang (Mesh), Jose Gonzales Pareja (Basic Textures) and Matt Allen (Texture Enhancements)
As always, converted and revised by Héctor Vives.

I'm pretty satisfied by the result, but there are some things that should be improved:
1) The X-wing lasers should be more visible (yes, the X-wing is shooting)
2) Needs more fighters

Comments and critics?

Two suggestions:

1.) The ties don't appear to be making a graceful arc, rather they're making a sharp turn to the right. I'd recommend smoothing that out a little. (assuming that's not an artifact of the preview..)

2.) I'd have them go a little farther into the foreground. The A-Wing appears to be flying along-side the Rebel cruiser, making it look a lot bigger than it really is. (or maybe I'm just not getting the scale of it. I seem to recall the ships being smaller in comparison from RotJ.)

Looks great, tho.

This is extremely cool!

But your right, it needs more action.

Are you referring to their first turn (sec. 1:00), or the second one (sec. 3:00)?

Err... I'm a bit confused. Do you mean that the cruiser looks bigger than it is, or smaller?
I didn't make the fighters go so far because I didn't want them to be too tiny to see them, if I understood you well

Both, actually. I doubt most would notice, though. Are you using paths to animate the ships? If not, it might help. (not sure if C4d supports that...)

Yeah, you get my meaning. I think you'd be surprised, though. You can see the ships at the beginning of the clip, if they turned to little more than specks, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. As I said, it'd really add to the sense of scale.

Ok, the first turn should be in that way. They're chasing the A-wing and it suddenly turns right, close to that frigate, so the TIE's make a sharp turning.
The second one must be smoothed

And I use splines for the fighters' trajectories. I didn't found a way to convert them to paths. I think that, as you say, C4D doesn't support them, but I don't know.

Well, I came up with an idea for a next scene while making this one, so I didn't want the fighters to lose too much attention from the viewer...
The A-wing is not flying near the surface of the cruiser, but rather below the corvette, and near it, trying to avoid those fighters. I do that when I pilot an X-wing in that battle

And, according to this image, the sizes of the fighters are pretty accurate...

Hehe, thanks for all your comments.
