Max Milky Way, Or something!

Doesn't Look 3D, But it is, all done in 3dsmax and afterburn. trying to get a feel for its appeal to the 3D community. Though, it is still a WIP.

It's not a model but, what do you think?

Needs more internal stars I think.

hmm it looks more like a black hole than a galaxy to me. Very cool effect nonetheless.

yeah, the middle did end up a little empty, I'g going to add an additional particle effect in the middle to add more star density in the core.

Here is an update, nothing special, just added some background to it, tried to make the stars a little larger than usual to give more of a feel of other galaxies farther away.

also, I can't figure out how to get the stars within the galaxy to only appear within the blue areas and not in between them.

You could perhaps draw a few splines in the arms and then emit (alot of) particles from the splines ?! or use some funky emit from texture solution together with alpha map mentioned above

Yeah, it looks an awful lot like the accretion disc of a black hole (or at least how they appear on TV) or possibly a wormhole or temporal rift or something along those lines. I can see a resemblance to a spiral galaxy, but only because its it's in space and is spirally really. It looks nice, but not as a galaxy
