| Battlestar Daedelus This is a model I have been working on for three weeks, and it is far from over. The program I used is google sketchup, which is very basic and limmits what I can do. The program can't do curved surfaces, so all of the wierd angles are supposed to represent a curved surface. I have only been doing 3d modeling for about a month, so this is my first real project. Enjoy. |

| Sketchup can do a bit more curves than you might think. Using the arc tool and the bezier script, you can draw a cross section that you can then push/pull and scale to create curved surfaces. Your model looks good as it is anyway though. |

| SFM Guru | You've got good 3D instincts. Why don't you get a (free) full-featured 3D modeling program - say, Blender or Wings 3D? |

| SFM Nugget | Let me say this is well on its way to being a good looking project. And I will agree you can do more curves in Sketchup by using the arc tool and the bezier script, used it myself. the aft looks great, keep adding the details, the nose looks great you may want to look at the well in the center it looks a little deep may want to make it a little more shallow on top. love the fork - good job, you may want to add about half an inch to the nose. keep going-looking forward to seeing more it |

| Grrr...Sketchup isn't that limited, it's a very powerful modeler if you know how to use it - this is from my thread, but it's an example of the curves you can do with Sketchup: Chubbeh3.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (I'm linking instead of img tagging it so I don't draw attention off of this thread's work ).As to the model itself - it's quite good, the fork is a neat design aspect. Barring the lack of smooth surfaces (something that you will learn as you get more advanced with SU, unless you move to a different program), it's a good mesh - clean and not a victim of a lot of the weird and messy things that SU lets most inexperienced users get themselves into . Oh, and if you want certain lines to go away and get a more curved surface, use the smooth line tool. |
