Hi people,
I havnt posted in a while so just in-case here's a small update to show im still ploughing ahead with me shippy.

well it feels like a small update but looking at the older pics iv'e got a lot further on. remember a lot of stuff is still placeholders/rough blocking in. I think i got the shape of the main cannons looking ok so I will need to refine them but it seems like i work in a little place for a while, then another then another completely different bit so it doesnt feel like its moving fast, but then after a while it all looks a lot better.

C and C apprecited.

Nice update. The main guns look decent and with some minor detailing will be great. Overall this is coming along very well.

Wow, nice guns... although, they look a bit tall. the rest of the ship looks stream lined, the guns should follow suit. Just my 2 cents.

Keep smiling , It makes people wonder what your up to..

thanks people,

the look im going for is a heavy military frigate, a capital killer. Styling would not be the primary concern in that respect. the first pic of the "big" guns was when i was building them, I've scaled them down by half when u can see them on the main body of the ship. I'm thinking they will be heavy repeating particle jackhammers. There will be some smaller, solid state ammunition accelerators (repeating rail guns of some sort) for close support and anti-missile defense. (I saw some footage of chain guns on a navy frigate and i like that idea, on the royal navy tv advert i think). Gonna have to fit some missile launchers and torpedo tubes somewhere and just to put the icing on the cake perhaps a converted and overdriven mining laser underneath. With some more jackhammers or course.

but now im getting carried away

*snorts* Yeah, Larsen, you don't know a thing about modeling big, detailed cap ships.

@Bojangles: Just looking at the renders, I can't tell where your poly count is coming from. Perhaps you are using cylinders with too many sides?

At any rate, good work so far. I'm digging the engines. Before you get too much further with the details, you may want to decide what size this thing is supposed to be. That will heavily effect the kinds of details you apply in terms of armor plates, hatches, portholes, etc.

Fanks People,
Im definately feeling the love

In regards to the famous poly-count i kinda know where its coming from. In the original pics where i had modeled the engine and the internals there are rather a lot of pipes and cylinders, yes? Well when i started this thing i didnt really know what it was going to be, and then somehow created something enginey. Weeeeelllllll.......i kinda started hig poly, (usually 60sides to start :$) and there are a few things that are quite small but a little high in count. As this has progressed, however, and the ideas I am getting in my head for renders and pictures, I want to keep it high poly as this is going to be a fairly large sized ship. when this is docked of landed and repairs are going on and the engine doors are open i will need it to be nice and smooth.

As i said before though there will be optimisation later on down the line once I get everything nailed down though.

Fanks for the encouragement, again people. Sometimes i can be spinning this thing round in persepctive view for ages before im brave enough to start something. I have some more time over the weekend so hopefully i can have something more to show then.
