60 sides?!?Yeah, that'll do it, definitely. You can definitely reduce the number of sides on those cylinders, and it'll make a huge difference in your poly count and your render times.

well in my defence, when i started this thing i wasnt sure where it was going, and then it started looking like an engine...so it became a spaceship.

I will go back and trim a little here and slice a little there so i'll just have to suffer it for the moment. Per 'render times' i have about 30 layers in the file so I do switch things off where i know i cant see them.

With these clay renders though, big pics (2000px +) are taking 25-30 mins but i know that partly due to my ancient puter. I can get away with 8-10 mins on some of the smaller pics.

little update of the stuff i've been doing over the past few days. Started tackling the middle section. There are windows but i think this will be some sort of observation lounge/deck as opposed to the bridge, which i may put inside the ship, we'll see. You can also see a minor Comms module here as well.

thanks people, i needed that.

I have been getting to the stage of design burn out and seriously pissed off with this. Ive been faffing around with designs for the section behind this first observation deck and not liking any of them. Ive left it for a week or so to let me recover and messed around on cubase making gun noises and thats got me back into the right frame of mind again so I can come back with fresh energy.

Big thanks to Ozy, Elowan, Hundred, Dimitriy Jedi and all that have been so kind. There will be some serious time spent these next evenings and over the weekend so hopefully i can have something to post again.

Bo

How about making a tutorial? For those of us who are not as skilled?
And a few more angles are always welcome...
