hey thanks, i feel like i've got the bit back in my teeth with this redesign. Ive been using some old parts and warping/bending/flaring (maya animation deform functions but most useful with modelling, if anyones interested) so some really intricate work on flat pieces can be warped to a tube shape pinched at one end. these intricasies have been making my mind race with ideas for bits and technicals to greeble in. Come the weekend I should have some quality time with maya to carry this on, and some mind lubricating alcohol to send me down unexpected avenues

I like the new desing...however turrets seem to be out of proportion when compared with the bridge. I think you could shrink the turrets and add more of 'em.

(just my 2 cents)

Knowledge is light. Ignorance is darkness.

I agree with Dimitriy. The guns are a bit big for my taste. Otherwise I like the way this is going

louder is better (what did you say?)

i knew the guns were going to be controversial so here's the reasoning. I did design the guns separate from the body and they were a lot smaller originally. When I started laying out this design they looked small, piddly peashooters. As I scaled them up they just seemed to look better. As this is supposed to be a gunship/attack frigate and the primary function would be to shoot things it just fit that they should be oversized. If you look at the guns themselves, the actual cannons are not that big, its just the swivel base that need to be substantial as I expect these things to be able to spin quite quickly. Perhaps when I’ve modelled more of the machinery and internals it would bed in more. And, it will also help when the ships been skinned and not looking so skeletal.

Indulge me. If they start looking silly then I’m not scared to trash things and put something else in.

Dimitry, have a look at modern day battleships and look at the main guns on those compared to the bridges. The barrels are massive and long, like my………….:P

And considering these will be future rail guns or plasma-ry things then there’s going to be the need for more technology than just a tube to blow projectiles out of.

I think I might nickname them peashooters for the moment actually. It could be some kind of navy in-joke as the projectile it shoots would be the size of an orange maybe. Just immensely dense and the size of the cannon relates to magnetic rails to get it to near-light speed. Which would make them terrifyingly destructive. I’ll fill in the details of the back story as my brain spits it out.

Fanks, as usual for the comments, keep them coming in. I do need keeping on my toes :P
