Nausicaa Gunship and Möwe

Thought Id finally build this - my all time favourite plane design; the Gunship from Nausicaa. Refs werent a problem; I have the original issues and also the kit as well as film. BUT I found out quickly that non of the three versions actually match under close inspection so Ive tended towards original Manga version.

Started 3 days ago - using box modelling but intend to go Subd on it for some superdetailing. As well as love for subject I intend this to be my first Sub-surface scattering project.

C & C welcome.

Heh. I think this anime was before your time Melak, LOL. But if you are into anime you'll enjoy this one so I recommend you pick it up. Patrick Stewart is among an all star voice cast for the film.

Nausica was a beautiful anime and story with some very interesting designs. I loved the gunship and can't wait to see this model progress.

Nausicaa

Ahh I miss the old world stuff... it's like watching the very first ghost in the shell movie you won't see that kind of animation again.

The red ship was a bit more interesting for me though hint hint wink wink hehe:-)

Im guessing Nausicaan gunship is Trek? If so sorry but...

I hadnt realised till yesterday that Uma Thurman is in voice cast too.

I figure I can model the other Valley Gunships prety quick using this as a base model - mostly just nose gun changes.

Red ship? the little one man fighters with similar back-bulges? Ill probably knock one up but order of build list is Gunship/Nausicaa/Teto/Möwe and finally the Corvette. If time allows may do one more.

Having `Heroes` break then some fresh GUI snps and maybe a test render.

Yes, it was rumored that someone in the production crew of ST:TNG was a fan of the Valley of the Wind, so they named one of the alien races "Nausicaans" and hoped nobody would notice.

Very slight update.

Tidied up cockpit area, rescaled nose and some areas of body, and made further preparations for bulges.

Cut eyepiece in - this is a stumbler as some refs (mostly manga), have perfectly round eyepiece while the kit and standalone work has a more oval shape. Tended to round with a view to tinker when a little further on for overall effect.

c & c welcome

Ah I C - referencing something that has itself borrowed the name is a little confusing if u c wat I mean (Shes from the `Odyssey`) - but I guess thats how they hid it so well - In plain sight as such - but still nice that they have.

K - cut those pesky bulges in - slowed considerably by Max falling on its butt several times over some unspecified symmetry issue I think. Just fell back on mirror and weld in end, after banging head several times.
Tidied up the cockpit - although needs some closer inspection soon.
Decided on a few dimensions that the refs were conflicting on, lengthened tail end slightly.
Decided to try a test render to see if geometry is holding up ok. Darent Subd yet it would ruin my day.

Gee05.jpg

Need to get the nose and guns cut in then some general vertex work to get better shape and I think. But maybe Ill hit sack soon and leave that till the morrow.

red ship

Yes the red ship that the boy showed up in, that ship had a front bubble window cockpit I think. It was fast and had two guns on it.

This is a pic of it I knew it was somewhere out there still.
