Np glad to help.

Intersect is tricky to figure out, but once you do, it makes many things possible. Supposing you have an edge that goes through another object, and you want to create a vert at the exact spot where that object 'intersects' with the edge. So you would 'cut' the edge in 2 to create the vertex then use intersect with the vertex selected. use one of the new edges as your direction, and then select the face that it intersects as the plane. The vertex should move to where the two meet. (if your using a virtual mirror you may have some issues with that, its easy enough to turn it off and then on again when you are done.)

And yes, it is a good idea to get the shape right before you begin. Changing it later is very difficult. (I dare say extremely inconvenient)

Very good work, you'll need to include the artificial gravity creating plates for the underside diagram. U know, that which creates the gravity systems for Federation/Trek ships.

thanks. the TNG tech manual describes large generators feeding grids, but ed whitefire's blueprints describe 10cm disk generators embedded in the decking. no disrespect to Mr. Sternbach, but the latter seems like a more plausible arrangement, considering turbolifts, gravity field falloff, and so forth. maybe I'll make a compromise; a single larger generator below feeding a network of smaller ones in the deck plates.

Ozy, you are sooooooo right. Intersect is *tricky*. you wouldn't be up to making a quick tutorial, would you?

Yeah, I can, probably later today though.

thanks man. 'preciate it.

[edit] here's a render of the method I was describing. I "drew" the final window shape onto the panel, in its entirety, and deleted the extraneous edges/vertexes before using intrude to give it its depth. Then I used bevel on the outline and hardened the outer outline.

There is obvious segmentation, simply because I didn't draw a very smooth outline for this test. what I am happy about is that all the faces are still flat, as demonstrated by the lack of pinching.

it is also my assumption that Calypso was intended to have a single pilot, and have enough "sea-keeping" ability that her flight crew could perform diplomatic service functions without being too distracted by beeping consoles.

I do plan to add some vaguely battlebridge-like overhead consoles above the main helm. The two seats by the viewscreen are there pretty much in case a VIP decides they want to sit down and chat with the Captain while they cruise along, but they are functional as auxiliary stations.

I am keeping the interiors VERY next gen - wouldn't mix it with any DS9 or VOY styles, certainly no Ent-E junk. I want to add some wood railing or trim reminiscent of the D's wishbone, but I need to find the perfect place for it. I was hesitant with my helm console design, it's kinda a cross between the stellar cartography console from GEN and the type 7 shuttle helm console hemispherical controls.

BolianAdmiral is right, I'm keeping as close to "cannon" as possible, though the only existing designs show basically a miniaturized galaxy bridge where I have a dining table. I know I've already departed significantly from most other "cannon" info, most notably the warp engines, but I still see this as a Probert-Zimmerman-Jein-style refit, and not anything remotely like a John Eaves redesign.
Usually a Ranking officer will have his own pilot for Diplomatic away missions. Since the Captain will have his own envoy to take care of, being the host, he he would bring a junior officer, whose sole responsibility is making sure the ship flies. And you would also have an engineer in case the ship breaks down. minimum crew would be two or three individuals, not including the Capt. But it should be capable of being run by autopilot

I've been thinking about having a specialized crew from the "Diplomatic Service Corps" or something, but there's only gonna be space for two of them. I think the captain would enjoy flying his own boat once in a while anyway.

here's the elevation so far, you can see the deflector and computer core (unlabeled, under the helm) now, plus I filled the central deck. most of the callouts don't show anything new, just from a different angle. the most significant thing I learned here is that the dome was too short, so I raised it about 25cm to avoid having the ceiling uncomfortably close to one's hair. (not so much for Picard, but out of consideration for his guests, of course.)

I divided the upper deck into three areas.

1) First, I moved the dining area further stbd and made it slightly smaller, took out one foodservice table.
2) In the middle, I added a sunken area with sofas and such as a relaxed area for negotiating. the room has a window-blind-type enclosure that can close to make the room secure/private, and Ozylot, you'll be happy to know that I didn't disregard your opinion: the enclosure also functions as a holographic projector screen to display information, communications, idyllic scenery, etc. surrounding the room.
3) And, the portside is still a library/reading area.

pacal, the unlabeled thing under the library floor is the gravity generator which will feed the network of small gravity disks.

enjoy!

Looks like you have your work cut out for you

Well as promised I have created a tutorial. (Please don't take this as a shameless plug)

LINK-O-MATIC (look under the heading 'manual boolean') Hopefully its easy enough to understand.

in step 4, how exactly do you decide which edge to use to define the direction? select the adjacent vertex?

as long as its adjacent to the new vertex, it doesn't matter. its just setting the direction. All your doing is moving the vertex along its edge, and the edge stays straight.
