No problem bro, glad to help.

one note about paneling: Make your panels as a separate object! It will 1) prevent smooth errors. 2) Make it easier if you have to make changes later. Because the underlying mesh is unaltered.

yes, absolutely, all separate objects. I have the original geometry saved and I'm working off a copy. did you notice any errors on the test above, or are you just making sure?

No, just being sure

Looks quite clean.

a quick test to show how the escape pods look/work, and a preview of cutouts on the hull. (There are some errors where not all edges were hardened, I'll fix them later.) I'm thinking of modeling the hull in three layers:
1. exterior plating.
2. shell (as backing where panels meet/ recess, also to make sure there are no holes)
3. interior wall/ ceiling panels.

the evac pod is a placeholder. what does everyone think of the basic design?

Nice work! The cuts look great. Is there a hatch or cover that goes over the escape pods?

Wow! This truly is astounding... the level of detail you are putting into this is awesome, not to mention the effort. And I really like the fact that you are using both the Sternbach and Whitefire plans as references... very well thought-out and wise.

I also am totally loving the shape and look of the escape pod. I eagerly await further updates.

Ozy: there will be a hatch. thanks to your tut, there will also be many more fun cutouts.
Bolian: thanks. unfortunately, all that's really been proven by using both references is that no one was particularly sure how big this thing even was.
I am very tempted to design and model Deck 16 (saucer) now...
