| Look, I'm sorry if you don't agree with the numbers I came up with, but I did the best I could considering the limited number of references available. I could even post the math if anyone really wants me to. I am by no means saying that 912 meters is the absolute correct length of the Valkyrie, but from the few refs the public has been given, that's the best I can come up with. This, of course, assumes that it really is a Raptor in that Valkyrie's landing bay, and not something else. This isn't directed at anyone here, but there are times when the CG industry drives me absolutely insane because of the inane way they handle themselves, and this is one of those times. |

| SFM Obsessed | Welcome to the industry. It's very much a case of too many people going for too few jobs and everyone trying to protect their own employability. This means getting things done within both time and financial budgets, which is why a lot of people and situations come across as inane. |

| Never mind, I'll go ahead and post the math I used. Raptor: 8.54 meters in length/41 pixels. Mouth of the Landing Bay 8.54/41=X/246 X=51 Flight Pod Length 16/51=104/X X=331 Overall Length 104/331=286/X X=912 As you can see, no errors with the mathematics used. Like I said above, I realize that this is an extremely rough calculation, based on the assumption that the large, Raptor shaped shadow in that Valk's landing bay actually is a Raptor, and I by no means think that I've managed to determine the "canon" size of the Valkyrie. If I was given brighter screen caps, I could probably work out an even better calculation, but this is the best I can do for now. So untill the industry decides to let the rest of us in on it's petty little secrets, that's the best that can be offered. Edit: Whoops, I didn't see Spudmonkey's post. I understand what you're saying, Spud, but I don't understand what that has to do with releasing official schematics, or even dimensions. I don't work in the industry, so I have a more...oh, I'll say naive perspective, but I really can't see how releasing such materials would effect one's employability. I mean, Zoic released schematics for the Galactica, Colonial One, the Raptor, and the MK. II Viper. It stands to reason that schematics would be released for the other ships seen on the show. I've always been a fan of schematics, ever since I was 13 and got the old Star Wars Vehicles and Vessels book. It would just be nice if they'd release schematics for the other BSG ships. |

| SFM Obsessed | Quick note; none of this is meant as an attack on anyone or any group of people. It's simply a statement of opinion, but because it is text based it may be open to misinterpretation... You are making assumptions that it is to scale, its relative position to the pod and so on, so yes, you are unlikely to get an accurate figure. I must admit that I don't really understand people's need to work out this kind of thing... If the industry is keeping "secrets" from you there's probably a pretty good reason, and it could just simply be that they built the effects shot quickly, rendered it, added post and then moved on to the next shot. A lot of this type of work is simply a pipeline of tasks with tight deadlines, and the deadline and cost determine the level of accuracy based on the available time to put each shot together. Outside of SF fans, a lot of people in the real world would not understand the need to work out exact sizes, the need to justify and argue about fake science and the need to treat a TV programme as anything more than its entertainment value. They would consider people's attempts to rationalize and argue their points as specious at best and an immature waste of time at worst. But still, if it makes people happy then it doesn't really bother me all that much. If I feel people are getting too enthusiastic about it and ruining the thread then I will stamp the conversation out, so keep it civil and within reasonable levels please |

| Ah, there we go. I see what you mean about throwing a shot together quickly. That makes sense, and thanks for clearing that up. As for working out the scale from those screen caps, I just did that because it did seem like a good way to work out a figure close to the "actual" size. It really doesn't do anything for me, since I'm not skilled enough to even begin to attempt to model something this complex. I just did it because the math is easy. |

| Get well soon. I want to see more of this as I don't really care about sizes but in the design itself. Canon or no I'm liking the look of this thing. |
