Why would you want a turret when the non-mechanical aiming of a phaser array or bank should be faster? That's assuming the ship is strong enough to shoot down a torpedo. It's a good turret but it's the least Trekish thing on the ship. If it were supposed to be more like the Defiant's guns but turreted that might be different.

Because it looks cool?

I'll build the thing, someone else can describe the why.

This ship is starting to look really cool... wasn't sure at the beginning but I am now. Great stuff. Keep it up!

I personally like the TNG and Motion Picture era ships the best. This is a great blend of designs.

Aww... A bunch of posts were deleted. Oh well.

Here to start things up again! I decided to FINALLY complete this model. The project folder sitting there on my desktop, taunting me every time I turn on my computer.

I pretty much just need to detail the tail end of this ship, however the "wings" seem to need...something. I've marked the area that the Warp engine takes up space in red, which still leaves me a lot of blank canvas to work on.

I've given some approximate measurements for this section of the ship (since I'm building it in scale) so please gimme some ideas!

I've kept to my original dimensions (my very first post). The guy standing on the engineering section/warp core is about 183cm (nearly 6ft tall). The rear shot I've replaced the warp engine and moved the guy to the back to show scale.

I'm not sure if a shuttle bay would fit back there or not. It'd be right over the monster impulse engines. I'd have one in each wing in that location.

There's plenty of space in the rest of the ship to house the crew quarters, engineering, weapons and torpedo launcher (and store of torpedos) in each wing, and all that nifty stuff they cram into a vessel in the Trek universe.

Looks like I can fit a shuttle bay on this thing after all. I'm not going to put a lot of detail into the interior. Just needed to have something in there instead of a big empty space. There will be a bay in each wing.

That's when I got the idea to actually FILL that empty space with more than a ladder and a door. So I started designing a fighter/shuttle to go in there.

I'm doing some free form modeling here, taking a basic design element from the Type-9 shuttle from Voyager series. I'll just embellish the details until I'm satisfied.
