Most impressive, i didn't know sketchup could do that much. Nice work, keep it up.

I think sketchup is a lot more powerful of a 3D program then most might think...As I learn more and more about it I discover how to do something pretty cool nearly everytime I work on my model. There is a lot offered in the plugins...

I love sketchup...nice work with the ship..as to why the pods and round edges don't render smooth nothing comes to mind as a frequent problem.Maybe the rendering plugin is at fault....did you have the same problem in kerkythea?

I have no idea how to use Kerkathea...It's waaaaaaaayyyyy beyond my 3D software skill level. When I render in it I just get this really washed out image with all these grids, guides and weird light sources and after playing with it for two hours last night not being able to figure out anything I gave up. Irender is very simple. It took all of five minutes to learn how to use it though I'm still playing with all the settings so I have hope I can resolve my problems with it.

I think the segmenting you are seeing on your rounded shapes and cylinders comes from the fact that sketch up was initially designed for making objects for Google Earth, so in order to keep polys down it automatically segments rounded objects. I'm sure there is some option you can select that will turn that off.

Well me thinks I just discovered a frustrating limitation to Sketchup....It appears it will not draw true circles without segmenting them. You can control the segmentation but no way to turn it off....Oh well. I suppose the skills i am learning on SU will help me when I can buy some better software.

Back to the design itself, I assume that there will be some sort of connecting structure between the nacelles and the pylons. Also, I know it is just me nitpicking but I see some serious CG issues on this beast with all the engines down low like that, will there before more up on the main hull? And off topic, that is an interesting avatar, is there a bigger version floating around anywhere?

Hold the phone, your profile says that you are an ACAD user, why not use the ACAD 3D modeler, it is fairly simple and really quite intuitive, at least IMHO.

Yes, skp makes circles from segments but i never had that problem while rendering .....hmmm maybe you have some hidden lines or faces inside the pods....take a closer look...

Yes there will be a connecting structure...just have not drawn it yet. The CG problems aren't what you might think. The mass in the drive sections is much greater then in the primary hull. The drive sections contain the flight bays, fuel, engines themselves, FTL drive etc... the cg is located below the primary hull centered between the two drive sections....that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! The original design from the manga does have one big engine on the back of the primary hull...but aesthetically I thought it looked too uber so I designed it out of the ship for my model version. It was square and didn't fit with the other engines...I don't use autoCAD...I have a 2D only CAD that Autodesk made long ago...

Marian87, what render engine do you use with SU? Irender just won't smooth those segments out no matter what I do to the settings.

Here is the wireframe for the pod...nothing there that don't want there on purpose so I don't know what the issue is...
