Three-Strand Rope Study by TaffGoch - Google 3D Warehouse

you will find all you need to make ropes here hope it helps. It seems a little tricky at first but keep trying and you will be able to make rope.

Wow, there were quite a few tuts by TaffGoch. Downloaded a few of them to see how some things were done. That rope tut looks very time consuming and I have to do a lot of it I think I will leave it for last...very last

Thanks!

good idea lol, but make sure you learn it as it teaches you very important skills in sketchup you can apply elsewhere!

No doubt!
One thing I am curious about though is how to put a circle facing the right direction when you centre it on the end of the line? Magic I say
(I think it is the second or third pic(I'm at work right now so can't check))

Got bored again so I got inspired by an old GDW Traveller ship that has since been done in 3d by Jesse DeGraff. The first pics are a half model while in the next post I've put both halves together just to see what it would look like for now.

It is currently 1527 metres long. I'd say it would be a heavy cruiser class. Big spinal mount in the nose (not installed yet), secondary fixed weapons in wing tip pods, then I would also put on turreted hard points for various other weapons.

This would be a great ship to use to show the flag to out lying systems and really show that they can take care of business.

Tell me what you think so far

Been sick for a while so haven't done too much on any of my projects. But I have fiddled around with the Traveller ship heat radiators and some piping and stuff too small to see in the renders at the moment.

Need some ideas for detailing this ship as I am just not coming up with any good ideas myself.

Coloured some stuff to make it easier to see. I'm starting to bevel some edges but SketchUp has no feature to make this an easier job. If the surface isn't "planer" (sp?) and you have had to put in an extra line to make a face then it is just not worth the effort.

I just got myself TurboCAD 15 Pro Platinum edition and the AnimationLab plug-in. Also got all the training manuals and even the Constraint Manager Training disc. So now I have to learn how to use it. It looks like I need to start with the 2D stuff to learn the basics before learning the 3D stuff.

This is going to be a long painful process I'm afraid

Anyway, C&C welcome.
