Thanks. There is an old Trevor Webb painting in the Terran Trade Authority Handbook: Starliners; Commercial spacetravel in 2200 AD by Stewart Cowley (printed in 1980) that has always stuck in my mind. If you have the book the painting is on page 55. I would say that this is one of my main inspirations. That and the first Alien movie. I always liked that giant ore ship that the Nostromo was the tug for.

Yeah, shape = easy; size = bitch ![]() I was kind of basing it on the idea (not shape as explained in previous post) of the USNS MERCY and her sister ship the USNS COMFORT. Last year when I was in Panama the MERCY showed up for a day or two before making the transit east. So the ship is large. As an example, the green mid section is five decks high. Each deck is four metres tall (deck to deck). Total height is 900 metres, 400 metres long and 100 metres wide. I would put at a rough guess that half the ship is used for power plants, drives, ftl, life support and supplies. The rest would be control and command, bridge with aux bridge, computer cores, supply trunks, commo equipment, crew quarters, hospital wards, surgeries, quarantine sections, weapons lock-ups (from the patients), boat bays with hangar facilities and everything that goes with that (if you've ever been part of an air det on a ship then you know what I mean), and more...a lot more. you wouldn't believe what it takes to run a modern ship. Stuff you wouldn't even think of normally. All the possible details are staggering. But that really isn't the point with this right now. I'm trying to learn Blender but SketchUp really allows me to get ideas down for later use. ![]() I am getting a little better with SketchUp and it is amazing the stuff I have seen people do with it.

A bit of an update. This pic shows the aft where the main maneuver drive will go. I will continue the 'cut' lines as I like them. Will probably use them to not just break up the vast sail shape of the ship but also to make it look cool. If I can

Had an idea for a cruise ship (very rough) no soft lines yet but here it is and one with the hospital ship to compare sizes.
