USS Independence - First of her Class

This is something that I wanted to do since ages, or to be precise I have this model in my head since more than 12 years. The first incanation is a LEGO-model ( which I still have, and that serves me now as reference ).

This is supposed to be an Explorer-Type ship, something of an intermediate between Galaxy-Class and Sovereign Class. The design is amixture between the functionality of the later and the elegance of the former - although this is not totally visible yet.

Neither of the textures are final, they are only astarting point. The saucer section is almost finished - there will be only some sensor stripes at the sides and a sensor system at the top, as well as a secondary deflector ( I did not intend to use one in the first place, but now that I realized even a Galaxy-Class has a secondary Defelctor, I need to do it. ).

Besides a simple corridor I also plan to do some quarters and essential ship locations like mess, sickbay, bridge, engineering. However that will take some reallll llloooooooonnngggg time, so here is what it currently looks like ( the boxlike parts, meaning engineering hull, warp connections, superstructure will be modelled later on, they are only there to give an impression, bridge module will be added later as well ).

Not a bad start.
I believe the naceles are a bit fat and short. The corridors are cool, but the colors are to hot for a starfleet ship.
About the 12 years waiting with her in your mind... I know the feeling. I loved starships since I was in 07 years old, but could start to mesh them just when I was in 34...

1-Absolutelly no!!! It won´t be done... You won´t see a ridiculous pokemon as a crew of my ships. And don´t ask me about technobable too, please!
2- Science Fiction it´s only FICTION. Don´t argue as it is a real thing. It isn´t!

Yeah, everything looks good here, but the color scheme of the corridor. It looks very '70s. And this, in my opinion, is a bad thing...a very, very bad thing.

My recommendation would be to simply use a much darker wood and never touch that shade of yellow ever again.

Looks interesting. The model exterior is very good and proper. The interior shot is very sweet.
Really nice feeling to see the corridor with such panellings.

See the Shadows of Darkness, Hear the Scream of Cruelty...

First of all thanks for all your interest.

They have the same length as the engineering hull, they are just positioned a little forward and become leaner at the end. Maybe it is a perspective thing, I will try and upload another perspective next time.

I tried several different colour schemes, some only with grey, etc. The problem is, that the ship is supposed to be a vessel carrying families like the Galaxy-Class and I think therefore it needs to look a little more friendly than the darker ships like Voyager or the Sovereign-Class. I tried to incorporate the panel like structure of the Galaxy-Class and mix it with some of those grey colours of more modern ships.

I also figured that maybe on non-civilian decks the panels would probably be grey, or something.

The ship has a length of around 660m and is around the same volume as a Galaxy-Class.

I know I am not the fastest, but I am currently very busy elsewhere. I began some forming of the superstructure and made one more step towards finalizing the saucer. There is now a secondary deflector at its tip, there are sensors on the upper side and on the rim as well.

As mentioned before I put up an upper view of the whole ship so you get a better impression of the proportions.
