Dave, Great work so far. I've alwasy loved the TMP design and in particular the cargo/landing bay. I look forward to seeing more of your work on this. Have you seen these blueprints? Star Trek LCARS Blueprint Database - U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701A Deck Plans They may be of the 1701-A, but maybe they'll give you an idea or two. They seem to try and make some sense on how the turbolift might work with this design, at least.

I don't have anything new of late. I'm waiting to see what Al3d can do for lighting/texturing. Waiting 4.5 hours for a single frame render is just too long. | |

Perhaps the hallways lead to a small alcove by a viewport. They may only be a couple meters long and end in a quiet spot where Kirk can work his magic on the ladies? But you could be right. It's obvious from Probert's site that much of the design was finished at different times. So as much as we fans would like everything to be perfect and make sense from a technical point of view, we seldom get that luxery.

Very nice work indeed. I have briefly scanned the comments in this thread so if I am repeating anything that has already been said please forgive me. It would be next to impossible to model the interior of the Enterprise based on the film or any other cannon references and make it perfect. There are obvious flaws in the design just looking at the hull. After all, The Enterprise model had to be asthetically pleasing. More a sculpture than a viable vessel. Engineering was a minor concern. I doubt anyone could have predicted that it would be scrutinized to this level. If I had a Klingon BOP, I would slingshot around the sun, travel back to the 70's with a laptop and a pirated copy of Autocad and tell Andrew Probert to build the ship from the keel up just so I could download the schematics now. *laughs* I applaud the efforts of those who have tried to "fudge" the art of into psuedo-reality. I have done a bit myself. *laughs* With all that said, just do what you feel is right. Regards, Anarion

Dave, Here's a link to a couple pictures of the inside of the Polar Lights model kit: Puttering in the Study: Polar Lights Starship Enterprise - part 2 - shuttlecraft bay Note that the cargo bay has only 3 cargo pods across the front and back. Obviously they noticed that the one seen in the movie was too big for the actual ship. In 'reality' if the bay was narrower, then there may be enough room for a corridor along each side.
