Mark, glad you like my work.

Everyone.
I will not be able to do any 3D work for a while, but that does mean I can't think about what needs to be done. Here are some ideas I had this morning:

1. A Norway Class Saucer, with a few alterations, such as scaling it up, front
to back, and deepening it.

2. The hangar pods - the shape of the front needs to be redone, so I was
thinking of a cross between say a suitable star trek hull (class
suggestions?) and the sharp prow of a current destroyer (to keep the sleek
catamaran look).

3. How should the hangar pods be attached to the main hull. Pylons, if so
what class style? Or should I mount them like the engines on the Voyager,
having the flat deck area? Other Suggestions?

4. The Nacelles - There aren't any stock class nacelles that would fit the
style of the ship, but I was thinking of a cross between the Intrepid and
Galaxy nacelles. say the "nosecone" section of the Intrepid's and the rest
(the blue sides) be a close variant of the Galaxy.

5. Coloring - a style similar to the Sovereign Class, because of the time
period, but the kind of grungy color pallette of the Norway Class

Again updates WILL BE SPORADIC, I will try to keep up with the conversation on the thread, but if I don't respond for a day or two, just keep checking back. My guess is that it will be upto four weeks before progress can begin again in earnest, so please bear with me.

UPDATE: Here are some sketches I made last night. The one is of the nacelle and the other is the hangar pod.

Also here is something I found, a possible way of mounting the hangar pods. I've got a different idea on my sketchpad at home, but was not able to scan it in time to post.

Japme here, and there are updates!!!

These pics are of the redone hangar pods and the redone "wings" attaching them to the main hull.

Suggestions?

Here are some more renders of the pods, these are from the same day as the others.

Guys, I need the Norway Class mesh that was carried here on SFM. I downloaded it a few weeks ago, for this project, but the MAX is corrupted. I need it for the saucer section which I plan to duplicate and modify for this project.

If any of you have it, would you please export it to an .obj or .lwo. and send it to me here or at kickajet@gmail.com. Carrara opens .3ds files with everything in a jumble, so I don't like to use them. If there is anything bad with this request, I'm sorry about that. If necessary, I can just email the MAX to you. I think my version of 3DSMAX is to old, as all I use it for is converting and a few other things which Carrara has problems with at times.

THANX.

Just saw what you made with it. Nice. I take it, this stuff's separable?

Then the lower deflector is to the engineering and the upper one (on the equator of the saucer) is for the saucer?

Sweet idea!

Aresius.

Thanx for the quick reply. Separable? I had not thought of that. It is an idea, but I was originally thinking of having the main dish be the long range sensors, while having the smaller one as a AWAC style fighter control "radar". If I can get my hands on the Norway class saucer section, I might be able to make it separable, but no other class has the right mix of creased an smooth surfaces.

Any suggestions on my idea of a "Norway" saucer, the one that is on my ship now is not the final.

More pics next Sunday or Monday, but I will monitor the thread the whole week.

Everyone.
Again, sorry to beg, but I need the Norway Class mesh from SFM, before the upgrade, to be exported to .OBJ or .LWO.

Well, I think that the regular deflector dish can handle this was well; remember that the dish is plugged onto the computer which works fast enough to make more than five tasks at a same time, so following the regular scanning AND fighter control wouldn't be too much problem.

I think that the Norway saucer would not really match. At least not in its current form. It just does not has the right shape.

Aresius.

Your right that the base Norway mesh is not a perfect match. Here is what I am thinking.

A. Stretch it front to back, say 110 - 115% of normal proportions.

B. Redo the Rear and Bottom "faces" of it, probably add docking points to allow some of the smaller ships such as Obreths or even an Intrepid to dock temporarily, for deepspace repairs or crew rotations.

C.Possible add Bridge superstructure, no more than 2 decks, but enough to look like something.

D.Redo the the smoothing and creasing of the Saucer, but not the basic shape, to match the style of the rest of the ship.

E. Cut the saucer up and make it modular, similar to the... shoot, I can't think of the class... but I think you get the idea.

I just want that mesh, because it is the only one that is even close to the style I want.

Have you tried building your own, from scratch? I know its tough, and you're relatively new to 3d modeling, but you gotta start from somewhere There are plenty of people here who would gladly help you work your way through, im sure.

As far as modular, i believe you're thinking of the Prometheus class, which can reconfigure into modular for Vector Assault Mode (by splitting into three powerful ships).

All starships should have an airlock for hull maintenance, as well as a docking collar for spacedock, but not to link up with another ship, you use transporters for that.

Homer.
Nice to hear from you again.

I have tried (halfheartedly, when I took a short break from the hangar pods), but I don't have any good references, which I hope to remedy. Also there are some shapes that just don't come to me. I've made a C-130, C-47, two World War Two battleships, and a whole lot of other stuff, over the past 4 - 5 years, I just need good references to be able to do so.

No, it is not the Promentheus, its the Insignia Class, that I'm talking about. I want to have a saucer, in the Norway shape, that can be reconfigured for different situations, such as: tactical, strategic, blockade, and what ever else you can think of.

Good point about the transporters and ship to ship docking.

Again, Thanx for the response.
