@Silverblade : Really impressive. I enjoyed the Spelljamer add-on to D&D, but there were a lot of things that made playability awkward (so I changed it accordingly), but many of the ship concepts were truly what I could see as "magic" in space.

I love the Hammership, Galleon, Octopus, Nautiloid, Whaleship, THE Spelljamer, kobold Turtleship, orcish Scorpion ship, etc.

Are you thinking of doing any of the other ships from the game?

Ice-Dragon,
you betcha
Texturing the sails at the moment.

Gthompsn,
Ta! yeah, it is a very weird, lol the gravity-plane stuff, I've never got on well with, just adds problems, especially to when I'm building these ships! lol.
Agreed though, the ships are fantastic designs and thus, why I'm making 'em.

Oh hell yes! I've made the Nautiloid (twice), Deathspider (twice), Squidship (twice), Wasp, Man-O-War (twice) and Tradesman
Twice because I've improved my skills and started modelling interiors too.

All on my 3D model page for dowload in .obj and Vue formats

Probably gonna make a Dwarven Citadel next

That would be awesome! I just went to your site and saw some of the other ships (Elvish Man O' War -- I had forgotten what it was called which is why I didn't mention it before).

I'm not so bothered by the gravity plane (sci fi essentially has the same thing for starships except that the "plane" is entirely below the ship) as the "crystal spheres" and other nonsense. I would like to think of fantasy as providing another way to interact with the world around us (I object to the idea that technology and "magic" are incompatible).

I look forward to seeing what else you make. The citadel should be extraordinary (they never did much to detail one of those, so you have a lot of room to play with).

Silverblade darling.....Carson Beckett is or was shall I say the base Doctor from Stargate Atlantis...**snicker**...His character was killed off to return as a clone and he now lies in stasis until they mighty Atlantis team can fix his clone flaws....He was a great character.

Gthompsn,
ah, but the gravity plane changes whenever an object of larger mass comes close, and forces it's gravity on you, which causes REAL headaches
Also, it plays merry hell with stairs, lol, stairs cannot be used in any deck that changes gravity planes after take off, ie, most bottom-most decks.

I quite like the idea of the Crystal Spheres and Phlogiston, except for it interfering maybe with how space may look, hm, nebulas??
Rendering the Phlogiston, well, so far has proved ot be a TOTAL pain in the butt Rainbow gas...ick! Hehe.

It's fun to imagine what magic might be put to, but, there's always a difference between it and Science: repeatability and consistency. Magic's weird, mysterious, practiced by few...so, not always guaranteed that civilization X, will come up with same method as civilization Y, or that iot may be repeatable at ALL...which may also explain gnomish sidehweelers..sigh. Only gnomes could power space ships by hamsters!!, haha!

THink I'll use some Zbrush work for the Dwarven Citadel, to sculpt it, and then add battlements etc in Rhino.

Sorceress21,
bah, always doing in the Scotsman so they are! Always happens, it's a conspiracy I tell ye! they are feared of our kiltsies!!

And now..back to the modelling

Brought it in piece by piece into Vue, it's FAR too big to export and import as one piece, 1,320,000 or so polys!! So, export in layers from Rhino, UVMap, and import, tweak in Vue.

Hammership 45: first proper texturing, making the sails. in Photoshop. The lion rampant design is NOT mine, I can't draw, lol, it's a shape for Photoshop

Used an image of wood, for texturing over a very pale tan, for the canvas. Set wood image layer to Linear Burn 50% opacity, so it gives nice look, then used layer mask to eat it away, so edges, and near the ties to spars, are darker.

More sails

This is the Ram. To get this effect, I used a MIXED MATERIAL in Vue, one material my own iron, another my own brassy gold. Using a very large greyscale image for precision, I differentiated them, and used same image for bump.
Again I used shapes in Photoshop, one I warped to fit.

I messed around with a detialed VEYR large hull material in Photoshop,
http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com...mmership48.jpg
but didn't like it, so I went with an old trick, using a nice wood plank image, added color to it in Vue, tiled it.

Note how my UV mapping gets the planks to fit neatty over the main part of the hull along the mid section, though it's split into 8 pieces, and upper and lower hull are seperate as well, hence the forecastle hull doesn't tile the same way (more tweaking needed)
UVMapping this kind of thing is...well, you require a LOT of patience!

Still need ot UVmap decks and panneling, and fix lot of textures!

Impressive. It will be really cool to see what you come up with for a Citadel idea.
