Rhino Hammership

EDIT:
replaced pic with final Rhino & maxwell render of model
Currently working in UVmapping and texturing

Making a "Hammership" which is a light-mid sized ship from the Spelljammer fantasy space setting for D&D

Image of Hammership
http://www.geocities.com/asibal_2000...hammership.jpg

I'm doing internal deck layout etc as well, trying to stay as close as possible to art work and deckplans, but...they often don't mesh, Hammership's plans/art are pretty much ok, but it's actually a much smaller ship (mass) than the statistics note (for Spelljammer ship combat etc, hull dimensions are correct, but the tonnage is too high)

I left in some ripples in the hull after "sweeping2rails", as it gave a more organic look, so I didn't fix that.

Completed the rear window as that was item of interest (note a weird display bug showing a sort of aberrant triangle botom right. odd, not on model or when meshed)

Mikey-b,
Cheers!

bit more work, made a complex boolean of the head (yeech what a pain to do), so it has thickness and for working out how internal walls will go etc.
Also made the head taller. After looking at it, as I suspected the art work doesn't "work"...eyes have to be big neough for a man to walk in, thought I'd allowed for that but..nah so had to make it couple of foot higher.

Added forward castle, found to do these kind of things right..as it's wooden ship style..to make 2 tubes, top one for curved (filleted) railing, as you'd expect on a ship so I can split it up nealty for texturing later
  • bottom, standard wooden wall, ciruclar, with upright support posts. posts have very small chamfer on edges, chamfering every hard edge where applicable, to make final renders look better, chamfer = less polys than fillet.
  • top, this would be a polished hard wood rail, with large fillet to give it a curved profile. I'll split the side and chamfer, join them, so a verticla texture can fit neatly. Then the top part can have it's own horizontal texture...as I may do close up renders of crew on deck, I need to have precise texturing, and Vue cannot apply materials per poly, only per object

Rebuilt the head yet again, lol!
I made the the eye flatter, so crew can use the floor to walk on, and thus I don't need to waste available height with adding decking.

Added lens and frame.

Added a soft organic surround for the eye.

Added fins/sails and most of their rope work...side fins connections to hull will suck as it will be very finicky...sigh.

Came up with an idea of how to support the "main" sail: putting it into a rotating cap, cap supported by a pillar, pillar braced by main mast.
Original illustration has the sail held there with no support, which I had to fix.Ok it's a fantasy ship, but, the ships are meant to be "plausible".

Re-did rear-window a bit. added pillars on each side and fancy bits to fit it all together.

Did the main hatch. I rendered that in grey, to show the chamfering, since up close art renders, as much chamfering/filleting as logically posisble as it really helps. Note materials are only standard Maxwell materials, will do proper textures when finished.
Also did a suitable latch for the hatch.

Altered the gills a bit, scaling each one down successively, and making them closer to the hull

I'll just post thumbnails (save file space left here).
The pics all up on my Rhino page, as I'm keeping a sort of "render diary" of construction

Lotttttttttt more work done

Hope it's ok to post 800x600 or smaller pics? don't need to waste Sc-fi mesh bandwidth or wreck page layout etc

ornate side panels

Ram and Bow railing

Turret, I split off outer surfaces of chamfered planks, so I can make it appear ot have iron plating, or just wood, as need.Giving it a "rough n' ready" low tech look.

hatch latch

Capstan for rotating the turret, actually moved it, as this test showed it was too close to the wall, lol! so it's offset, assume gears drive turret.

used Cage Edit function to warp a rail into better position, as the hull upper part is tapered inwards, a vertical support and rial needs to be made into line with it

Large piccies and other big ones on my Rhino page
