How d you build the Model, By individual meshes for the components or modify one great hulk of a Mesh? This looks Fab already and I can't even get a Block type ship to look good.

@Acurley1 - I built each piece at a time as a single mesh and then combined the components into a whole. I start with the leg, for instance and build up the mesh, cutting and extruding as necessary. It's sort of like the joke about sculpting an elephant. Take a block of cement and carve away everything that doesn't look like an elephant. Does that answer your question?

@L2K - Well, the "heel" rotates up before the leg lifts, and when it does, the "toe(?)" is the last thing to touch the ground. It rotates around so the whole foot then touches down at once to take the weight coming back down. This is a much simplified foot. The real mech will have a pair of front toes and an articulated heel.

I think, in this test animation" that the foot actually collides with the lower leg, which is not really what I planned. I am still trying for the overall effect right now.

you should try the bones.
even without ik and proper rig, it still help to set up the articulations.
after that, all you need is to parent your mech objects to the bones

This is using bones, with IK for the legs and arms.

OK, took a break from animating to work on some basic texturing. I have made a first cut at the basic painting on the Marauder. Eventually I'll add dirt, decals, scratches, and whatnot. First, I just wanted to see what the textured model would look like.

What do you think?

That's a nice texture you've got. I really like the sheen on the cockpit
