OK here's the first test render with textures in. It has taken me a while to get to this stage because making textures is boring There's a subtle panel effect in there - probably too sutble right now. What are your opinions of the base colour?

Wasn't there a little more orange or gold and less green in that yellow? Not sure, maybe the tint was all goofed up on my TV. Nicely built mesh regardless of tint.

I seem to recall them leaning more toward a rust-ish color.

Colour looks fine to me, if there are panels though, yes, they are too subtle.

This is just the base colour - there are rusty-orange gradients to be applied over the top of it yet. The panel effect I have tried to keep subtle as it isn't present on the original - I just wanted to give the texture a little extra depth, so most of the effect is going to be in the spec channel, which currently doesn't exist But yes I think it is just slightly too subtle. I want it so that you can see them, but they also shouldn't jump out at you. They're layered in with a linear burn at 5% at the moment... I'll try 7 or 8.

OK this isn't a knock against the modeler, but I was just looking at this shot of the Galor's stern http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/a...keldon_009.jpg and thought, wouldn't that be a cool looking ship, if it flew backwards? With the bridge turned around that the claw thingy as some kind of main, offensive weapon? Maybe I'm crazy. Oh, and this is amazing work, Martocticvs : )

Well, I think it looks rubbish, to be blunt- you've missed out whole areas of the mesh!

On a serious note:

Don't forget that a very slight bump map will also bring out the panel definition, so I wouldn't muck about with it too much.

I think you've got the base colour about right- compared to the picture above you're very close. Yours looks a bit cooler, but you can probably put that down to the difference in the ambient light temperatures in the different pictures (yours being simulated as well will obviously have an effect). Also, you'll notice a perceptual difference to the overall colouring when you have the "rusty" overtones applied, and have a bit more non-uniformity among the seperate, larger panel areas.

Thats my 2p.

Here comes the water, It comes to wash away the sins of you and I.
This time you see- like holy water, it only burns you faster than you'll ever dry.
