I like the smeared dirt. The damage looks more like stains though although that's not looking bad that way either.

Hmmm, no sorry, the only bullet damage I can recall from movies is all mostly inconsistent with what is actually happening on screen.

In top gun, not only is the machine gun damage supose to be to the engine (it is actually shown just beside the cockpit - as shown by the rescue label - which means it should have killed the crew!) it also more closely resembles small calibre (M60 etc) machine gun fire raked across the body of a plane in a boneyard - but with the gun perpendicular to the side of the plane - whereas the shot in Top Gun is supposed to indicate damage to a plane from shots fires almost directly behind it.

The bullet holes on Stealth are probably closer to reality for what you would see from the 20mm to 23mm calibre most aircraft have - however the spacing of the holes is more like what you would see if one plane fired on another that was rapidly flying across the the others path - that is the reason why planes have guns that fire so quickly - to try to get at least 2 to 3 hits on the target as it crosses your gunsights - however once again, in this movie what is actually happenning is one plane being fired on by the other which is almost directly behind - and from there, a fast firing gun would probably been more likely to chainsaw through the engine - but that would have ended the movie real quick!

I don't really know what to say, just consider what caused the damage - big bullets/little bullets, solid kinetic rounds/explosive tipped rounds, etc

And also, I guess, in the case of extensive damage, like the cluster of holes on the wing - I would think that would have been patched to some extent.

Go with your own gut on this one!

Oh, one more thing - the smoothing on the rear hump - hmmm, not sure it does it for me - I think the more angular approach you had before is more in keeping with the armour panelled approach - a smooth curve like that would fit better with a thin skinned modern jet, but not with heavy armour plate - what do you think?

Humm, well until i can find a good Tutorial on adding bullet damage i will keep them off for now.

And I do see your point on the plating....what i was trying to do is to make the jet more aerodynamic, since it can travel through the air, but then I almost forgot that this baby can also travel through space. So I added back the plating but also kept the smooth look of the spine.

I still have allot to learn when it comes to 3d modeling and battle damage, etc...

PS: No worries, i will add back the kewl bird logo soon.

Hey, you can always suggest that this pilot is so "Sh*t-Hot" that he never gets hit!
Or perhaps the weapons are such, that one hit means the planes are unlikely to come back anyway?

otherwise I can't help you on battle damage. Sorry...

Thumbs up Congrats.

As we Aussies would say, "She's a bloody beauty, mate!"

So, now what? Will the next craft be a new thread we will all have to watch for, or will you continue this thread? (After a well earned vacation, no doubt! )
