Low Poly Lego! #924 Space Cruiser

Hi all,

Looking for some critiques on how to give this thing a bit more character, and what y'all think of the idea of an "engine glow" in the rear cone. It's a game model for my Homeworld2 mod, BrickSpace. All the textures are baked on from a high poly model. I'm still not happy with the red and green pieces, they're supposed to be clear plastic.

Here's the real thing for comparison.

Looks pretty cool. I know it's only a rocket but maybe you could add some more interesting elements that come off the body? What was the reasoning for going with the lego theme? And yes, the red and green parts definitely don't look like clear pieces.

No to adding more stuff to it, as the reason for going with the "Lego theme" is to bring many of the spaceships shown here:

Into a playable game world.

I used to have most of them, keep up the good work, maybe after you make the playable versions you could do high poly versions for renders.

Wicked stuff. I remember having the LL918 set myself. Really wish I'd have kept the ones I had though

Nice. Can't you render the high res model for the texture with the clear parts actually clear with a lighting setup that exposes the clearness better? Also the top square part with four bumps should probably have a rendering that sets off the shadows around the base of each bump so they stand out more.

Hehe, I was actually planning on doing just such a thing, with baking in the render. I have done so, with your suggestion in mind -much improved, I think, and the ingame effect is somewhat better than just a still can show - opinions?

As for darkening up the shadows, I will look into it. Thanks a ton, your crits are exactly the sort I'm looking for!!!

Yeah, the green one looks good but the red looks flat.

Always happy to give my opinion.

I was defeating myself, in a way. I had the glow map cranked up to high and it was wrecking the red but not the green because of their different brightness to begin with.

I still have one more tweak I want to do, and then I'll move on to the next model, and that's just minimize the visibility of the studs under the "transparent" pieces. There's a second layer in the texture that doesn't need to be there now, with the glowmap behaving itself.
