| i agree with Valkyrie on this D....the pattern seems to "strong" if you will. A custom map would be more fitting for the saucer then a simple tiles patch. whis way all panels will mke more sens..) |

![]() Gets to a point that once overlaid, you can't escape what may look to be a pattern, even when one isn't actually there. But there are no symmetrical patterns at all on her. Orthos will reveal that. As far as "fitting" I think she looks pretty good to my industrial design sense as this is all based on actual shipyard ship-building refs of visual panels, which are actually kind of a visual mosaic mess in a way. If you have an example of what you are refering too, feel free to share, as you know I am as open to paths of improvement. ![]() deg

![]() And yeah, mine looks a lot better with the panels decreased. I'll have some renders later on. Working on UVing the nacelles and 2nd hull so I can create the hull panels for those areas. deg

| Is Baaaaack... | Deg, are you varying the diffuse color, or just the specular color? My understanding of the original paint job on the TMP Enterprise is that it was all the same base color, with different-colored pearlescent lacquers applied on top, which would be the equivalent, in CG materials, of changing the spec but not the diffuse, I think. I you are using anisotropic materials, you can vary the rotation of that effect to get some distinction between the panels. Just some suggestions, ignore at will. |

![]() Oh yeah, the diffuse and spec are all varied eh. The color is a constant with some very subtle blushing variation of green and red, very very subtle. I am actually still tinkering with the whole effect in general eh. It looks much better now that I have taken it down in its intensity, but nothing is cut in stone as of yet. ![]() As to the TMP finish, I do not care for Olsen's TMP pearlescent finish myself. More of a WoK finish guy. While the pearlescent lacquer finish was "pretty," it was painted by a guy that would appear to have a lack for and/or of the precepts of actual industrial design considerations. Olsen came more from a commercial art and razzle-dazzle-'em airbrush background world, and this showed up in spades on his take on E's finish. While by no means ending up gaudy or garish (thank God), it was decidedly not industrial by design, IMO. While Olsen's take on the finish was very pretty, I much prefer the more dulled-down finish that the more informed guys at ILM came up with. More realistic IMO, and easer to work with given the day. Still, all the reflection-bounce problems they were having with the TMP pearlescent finish is moot now though. Thanks again dude. ![]() deg

| Damn, dude. Words cannot describe how awesome of a job that you've done. Nothing against the guys who basically completely redesign the old girl, but I've been waiting a long time to see someone to come along and detail up the old design the way you have here. You've actually done about all the same things I might've done if I knew how to use a 3D program. ![]() Anyway, I like how you've added in details that one could almost believe were always there, and the vintage '60s cameras just couldn't pick it up. I really wished that TPTB had used something like this for TOS remastered, and I'd sure as hell JJ Abrams and company had used something like this instead of something completely redesigned. |

| SFM Guru | Thanks CX. Good to know my ultimate aim is recognized, and appreciated. I think my version of the E'gal is unique is that regard, as to keeping her lines and profile 99.9% intact. ![]() Phase 12_Painting and Some Fun Still finishing up the secondary hull paint-job and some other odds and ends, but had some fun doing a quickie (will redo it later when E is finished) recreate of one of my all-time fav Trek shots... ![]() Larger 1956 x 1100 ![]() deg It's only a model. - Patsy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail |
