Cool. Nice image. So what did you end up doing with the deflector? Have you finished that?

All I want is a tall ship and a star to steer her by...:)

Edit: Nevermind.

Anyway, all she needs now is an F-104 chasing after her.

Olsen came more from a commercial art and razzle-dazzle-'em airbrush background world, and this showed up in spades on his take on E's finish. While by no means ending up gaudy or garish (thank God), it was decidedly not industrial by design, IMO.

While Olsen's take on the finish was very pretty, I much prefer the more dulled-down finish that the more informed guys at ILM came up with. More realistic IMO, and easer to work with given the day. Still, all the reflection-bounce problems they were having with the TMP pearlescent finish is moot now though.
The interesting thing about Olsen's work is that according to his website the model was never filmed in such a way as to put the pearlescence on full display. As I recall, he mentioned that they were having trouble getting clean mattes of the ship so they had to change the lighting around. Since the original paint scheme was redone by ILM to reduce "kicks" from their lighting rig, there's no way to see Olsen's work as he himself intended it.

Actually, there are a coupla production publicity shots out there of the model with all its pearlescent glory evident.

And she wasn't repainted until WoK I believe. They did work around the finish in TMP, but she was not repainted on that show.

Hey this is looking very smart I think I have to echo some others though by saying that I think the aztec panels are a little on the strong side, but besides that she looks very good

If you are referring to the first panel saucer post Martocticvs that was at the test phase to see how the panels were laying down, heavy just to see the pattern.

See the post after that (w/E in the sky) for an idea of how the panels are actually going to end up. They are knocked way back in opacity.

I wouldn't change a thing, the panels look perfect, just like the rest of the model. And I agree you should add the F-104 chasing it... I mean if you don't have anything else to do...
