try it with the one giant cubic uv map.
and check the uv chanel. polygons can have differents uv layaout, but their id must be different. (and in the material editor you can switch from one to oneother)
so if you put giant uv cube in ID 2, you must say your material it is to be aplied on the uv-ID 2

i think this is impossible to my computer. I've tried some hours ago but, after selected all objects, and applyed the uvw modifier, i leave my pc to work over one hour, and my pc doen't finished.

When you love a pet, loosing it is like loosing a part of your soul. I lost part of mine on Feb 12 2008. Never will it be the same again.

Can you separate the base mesh and your greebles before you apply the uv?

yes i separated the greebles from main hull; i create a group with main hull objects and i applyed to them a uv map modifier, setting type mapping to box, and setting U tile: 10; V tile: 5. I've done 3 test:
a) without specular map;
b) witch specular map using a tiling of U: 1, V: 1 (tiling value in the material editor: specular map -> coordinates -> tiling
c) witch specular map using a tiling of U: 5, V: 5 (tiling value in the material editor: specular map -> coordinates -> tiling

just very slight differences, there is definitely something not right when all 3 very different setups look so damn close.
