Smile Samurai Lightsaber

I don't do "canon" models as people invariably complain about their accuracy to a millimetre. So when asked to make a lightsaber for a competition on another forum, I decided to do anything but a normal saber . A quick search for "futuristic swords" for inspiration helped at lot, hopefully I haven't gone too far and it still at least resembles a lightsaber.

Here's progress so far, I'm mostly working on the rendering and the remaining fiddly details.

I'd give you a 9.5 for the design and 10 for the texturing Looks awesome ! I'm a fan of samurai movies and this lightsaber really looks like something they'd use in a sci-fi movie

Blueprints please!
I'll ask a friend of mine (a blacksmith) to make this one's replica.
As a decoration it is marvelous. Man, i love it!

To the real use as a sword:
Giving the length of the handle i'd say it is two-hand saber, therefore it is unbalanced (tsuba is too big, you wont be able to twist around your body or slash). And the handle ending is not very "user-friendly".

A very novel idea. The string binding on the handle really makes it. Are you going to create a character to wield it?

cool idea! Just curious, I know it sounds crazy, but perhaps a curved blade might be interesting.

Nice work though!

Ha ha, not sure how you would do that with an energy blade!
The closest we've seen would be Dooku's sabre, which just had it's emitter facing off-axis to the handle, but still had a straight blade.

I would like to tell you how good your design looks, but I am unable to speak with a mouthful of drool! This is beautiful!
The decorative guard looks a little difficult to hide under a cloak, but if I had a lightsabre *that* cool, I wouldn't hide it!

Great job!

I agree - I love the design however but fighting with it would stink.

Again I love the design I don't give a rip about accuracy to the series but it looks a little clumsy.
