| SFM Obsessed | Welcome back Deks! Hope the RL is going well. ![]() Impressive setup for the nacele materials. Are you doing her with splines, or boxmodelling? |

| SFM Nugget | Hi! The overall design is very similar to the Voyager but those nacelles are great. |

It's not like I learned how to create full meshes with splines ... ![]() Truth be told, they always came out incomplete. Ok, I'm lying (to a degree) ... I did utilize the splines for numerous aspects (like creating my sign), but I generally never use them in constructing the base mesh of a star ship, station or even an organic life-form. I almost always use them for something more simplistic, like details which are easier to draw using splines and then apply bevel modifier to give them more substance (along with chamfered edges). The warp coils in the nacelles are actually a good example. But if required, I alternate between the techniques. Yes the overall design is reminiscent of Voyager (which was the intention when I first started making him ... yes I address this vessel in the male form), still, if I were to retain the Bussard collectors in their present form, I'd say he has elements of a Sovereign, Intrepid, Nova and Galaxy class ships rolled in one ... with more emphasis on the newer classes. And surprisingly, it meshes well (at least in my opinion). ![]() Primarily speaking I'm writing a Trek spin-off novel (in addition to an original story of mine which has no Trek elements for which I also began making 3d art) and the Nightfire is a heavy part of that story, but it won't be contained to only that. :-) I won't say more in that regard, but sufficed to say I already wrote over 100 pages. |

As I said the nacelles look great, very futuristic (as if the ship belonged to the 25th century or so, rather than the 24th). I'm looking forward for those pics of the previous version ![]() Quote:
BTW is 'Nightfire' the class-name or the name of the actual ship? | ||

As for the title of the story ... nothing specific yet. I was thinking on using the ship's name, but I think I will change it into something different. |

| SFM Guru | Very good. The only thing I would change would be the length of the nacelles, they're too short. |

| SFM Guru | The nacelles on the Intrepid arguably look too short as well. I thought the same about Nightfire when I looked at the top view. The length of the saucer (or the shortness of the nacelles) makes the ship look unbalanced, IMO, but the actual modeling looks really nice. |
