ok. I may scratch the supergate there and instead make something more along the lines of the space-gates. Free floating and more to scale with the ships.

as for the bottom center, I had a brainstorm today at work. Since this is a major facility to the Asgard, and it existed around the time of the 4 races, I thought about making a sort of 4 sided meeting place down there. Sort of their United Nations Plaza. I may play with that idea, rework the bottom, and see what some kind of solar pod looks like. Only reservation I have about a solar generator, is that since this station will be hidden inside a nebula, most of the light will be diffused and cut down by the nebula itself. If you look at our space stations and the ratio of solar panels to power usage the solar panels on this station would be huge, and even more so with limited direct light.

On moving the station, I had a thought. Maybe it would be treated like an offshore oil rig. Instead of having the station move, you use drones, or specially designed tugs to move it through hyperspace in pieces. I could easily see the umbilical piers being breakaway points. Just a thought. Either way it's not really necessary. Raynor has a good idea about thinking in terms of geography. Something to be defended, not defend itself. Whenever I think of Asgard ship design, they all have fixed position weapons. They could only fire forward, or in limited directions on the Daedalus. So an Asgard station, especially an old one, would have to rely more on ships for defense than mounted guns.

Just my 2 cents.

Well, this is planetary nebula. This might not in reality be true, but in Aronofsky film The Fountain, planetary nebula has pretty big empty space near the star itself.

The UN Plaza... I don't know. First, this is (or was) mainly military instalation, and second, it was build after the fall of Ancients, Furlings and Nox. But if you insist and rework it, I might said in story that it was built sooner.
However, since it now contains that consciousness(es), the botton might be physical interpretation (or something) of that - like a huge blinking complicated computer chip This is in fact pretty stupid, one might say that single hit will end it all, but all SG ships also has exposed bridges, right? anyway, just an idea.

hmm..... I may try to work in some panels. Maybe not for full station power, but to run critical systems in standby(which I assume it will probably be in standby mode when it's found by your characters). Either way what do you think of this? You got your upside down city somewhat. I like it. Seems more "Asgardy" to me.

Up to a whopping 130,000 polys. I'll probably be around 3 or 400,000 before it's done.

It's perfect as always, I might like it the most of all versions (is that... E?). With that small towers (though big like Atlantis main) it certainly gives one an idea how big the central part is.

glad you like it. Hopefully the lighting I use will help to emphasize the scale as well.

here are some possible solar panels. I actually think they add to the umbilicals somewhat.

Now that you point it out it is like a 4 oar viking long boat.

The station is still looking amazing anyways.

lol now that you mention it, it kind of does look like a ship. Now I have a mental image of thousands of Asgard manning the oars.

[Eddie Izzard] bom bum bom bum "roooooowwww ya bastards!" [/Eddie Izzard]

I guess I could add a dragon headed prow to each end.

anywho.... Small update! also tried a new test shader. Something in the back of my mind finally clicked and showed me I can use an Ambient/Occlusion shader inside another material. Leave it to me to take years to figure out something so bloody simple.

I've tried. Tried to download the one here 4 times and couldn't get it to download properly. I did figure out that Atlantis would fit quite snugly inside the circles of the two main towers though, so that should give you some idea.
