Wow dude sweet modelling It's funny that everything's copied but the overall structure doesn't seem to be composed of multiplied parts. However, I think that it could use some extra parts just to break the symmetry. Unless that's what you want to achieve

thx. ya I'm just a symmetry kind of guy. Every time I see an ancient warship on Atlantis I just want to jump through the screen and break off that little pontoon on the side. Drives me nuts. lol. It's ok for greeble bits to be asymmetrical (actually looks better) but any portion of a structure that isn't just bugs me. lol.

Decided to play with the arboretum idea some. Not sure if I like it. at least not like this. I'll have to keep working with it.

decided to try some paneling. also separated cargo to one side and the Arboretum to another. Trying out something different. I'm starting to like it.

I'm the same way. I don't mind small things being asymmetrical but I like keeping the over all shape of a design as symmetrical as possible.

-Snip-
I think this paneled version is the best one yet.

yes! someone else who is OCD about symmetry.

ok. to give everyone a better idea of how it will look.... I couldn't help myself.

render with everything.

The final decision is Raynor's since this is a project for him, but right now I'm really, really happy with how these look. If I end up keeping these than I still need to reposition the solar panels to look correct in the gaps, and better integrate the umbilicals into the gondola, then I can get back to work on the bays.

well It makes everything easier, you only have to make up half of the paneling and greebles

true boberth2o!

Ok, time for an update!

Made some connective structure for the umbilical piers, and worked on the panels as well (not shown. I had a render go bad so I lost the shot.).

I also started reworking the main bays. I thought they needed a bit more character in their basic shape. Also you see some work on the final greebling at the back. I'll probably replace a few with random variants later, but for now it gives me a good sense of spacing.

I really look forward to my art classes over the next two years of school that will help me learn to paint/draw more effectively. It will be so nice to be able to previsualizes design elements in Photoshop or on paper so I don't have to make 20 versions of every model.

sort of update. Haven't gotten any work done as I had a printer die and had to run around trying to replace it.

I did get a chance to do some concept work. Raynor expressed that he didn't like the way the piers were looking, so I tried some other ideas that are more weighty, while still having a great deal of detail to keep the idea of scale. Keep in mind that there will be significant detail on them that this previs doesn't show as well. possibly even more city space. It's also not a total loss of work, as if I end up doing this, which I probably will, I'll keep most of my scaffold work visible from underneath. Also a good ortho shot for those that like that sort of thing.

extra large image warning!!
