Mars Class Imperial Battlecruiser WIP (Warhammer 40'000: 56k Unfreindly Eventually ;)

The Imperial Mars Class Battlecruiser, mainstay Battlecruiser of the glorious Imperial Navy.

I have begun to re-do an Ultra-level detail Imperial Battlecruiser and selected the mainstay of many an imperial fleet. The Mars class Battlecruiser.

Bedecked with weaponry that includes a prow mounted Nova Cannon, broadside Macro-cannons and other varied weapons in its main batteries as well as a set of collossal hangar bays.

WORK SO FAR.

The Prows main bulk has been completed with relative ease minus the "bowsprit" and Nova Cannon.
Work has begun on the Next section of vessel, it's vast weapons batteries.

The vessel will be to the "accepted" length for cruisers of 3 Kilometres. Note this makes the "cannon" bays 100 metres square. I have "installed" a set of gigantic doors that are sealed concealing the macrocannons during travel in the immaterium.

Also included so far ar the flying buttresses siding the cannons serving many purposes. Anti-torpedo/Anti-fighter/Anti-bomber weapons. Targetting sensors and other paraphernalia for the cannons etc. Mostly because I think they look good.

yeah me to. I remember the first time i came across ships like this in Fire warrior on the PS2 where you land on one and have to fight through it, the sense of scale was awesome!

Ah Firewarrior - I'd forgot they'd made that game (and I own it too ). Had some really good videos of both Imperial and Tau spacecraft. And you're right, the sense of scale was amazing, it's just a shame the graphics and enemy AI let the game down so badly. I would love for Relic to put some space combat in DoW, but I guess I'll see pig fly sooner!

Actually it may happen sooner than you think. Seeing as I am the head modeller for the DoW Battlefleet Gothic Mod.

Battlefleet Gothic Mod

(Update soon, very soon. Trying to get a decently lit render of a part....)

Ok I need feedback on this one. A prototype Macro-cannon. (Not 100% satisfied with the design, I like it but....)

looks good , is this a low poly game model or doesnt it matter how detailed it gets, if the latter you could edit the faces aorund the cannon maybe for extra detail? does BG have a codex where you can get pictures of models?

@LR: I know, just trying to get the main guns out of the way first.

@liam887: Doesn't matter how detailed. I have plenty of reference pics for Battlefleet Gothic. (From its books/artwork etc) The problem is none of them really detail the main guns.

They look quite faithful to the models, but how about adding some pistons etc to indicate that they can be aimed in some way. Sadly my copy of the rulebook is in storage (just finished moving countries) so I can't check any of the reference material in there, but I'm sure most of the cannons are depicted with elevation mechanisms of some kind. Other than that good going so far and keep up the good work!
