yeah does anybody have any tips so the model turns out better in renders such as lighting etc? and what material i should use to give it that clay render image? i can render images 4900*4900 and they are not grainy but i cant post em on here can i lol. Ive seen many clay renders on this site and despite the small size of the images the quality is awesome id love to be able to show those type of renders in my WIP threads?
Well here is a new angle in case anybody was wondering what it looks like?

That is one sweet station! I started my own station on SketchUp but it is far to clean. Yours is most definitely the superior station indeed

Radiosity is your friend here. Though it's also called Global Illumination or GI and the result will depend on your program/rendering engine.

But a good model, I definitly agree with the "gritty" comment earlier. Exactly how a shipyard should look.

here is a view from another side showing the primary scaffold array (on the right) for construction, and the docking rigs on the right, more for re-supply. The main habitat and stores column runs down the middle with the reactor located at the bottom with the solar array located just below, the elevator system and tether will be at the bottom ( i haven't added them yet) the green background is just for contrast.

And here my Halo shipyard is just an octagon. Well done! Definitely looks like something the UNSC would build.

control spire

as you can tell the shipyards are huge so the surface will be littered with many more smaller docking arrays. This building is the main control spire which controls the dock and controls the operations and smaller spires, which will be smaller versions. if anybody has seen the last matrix movies in the dock in zion there is a control tower in the middle the smaller spires will be similar to these. The small docking bays are for the small ships and shuttles going between the different facilities and ships in the area.
Ignore the Normandy model in the Halo universe! its just in there so it doesnt look bare. im working on a sort of work bee contruction craft and shuttle to take ith place as well as umbilicals so the crew can board.
ive now added the work bee. Its very rough and low poly there is no point making it hi res as its tiny compared with the shipyards as a whole, ill make a hi res version for close ups when i finsh the station.

arggh ill try and get out some renders as soon as i can but the model has become so detailed in sketchup it crashes when I export it as 3ds or obj! ill have to try and cut it up and export it in pieces :@ Ive taken out the large disk areas and now its just scafold. Ive also constructed a large 'core section' which has now taken the place of the disc sections. Just waiting on a render 2700seconds gone 1300 to go lol
