Ive also watched the mythbusters episode but there not entirely accurate in there methods . It is actually possible to travel above the speed of sound underwater the Russians have had the technology for many years its called super cavitation. Basically once you reach a certain speed a bubble forms around the object allowing it to travel faster and faster. The engines in theory are designed to be outside this pocket of air as are the wings. In theory ![]() Anyways the weapons systems for this variant are primarilly Hull missile bay - Hawk Air to sea missiles. Designed to be launched from either short range vertical launch or long range sea skimming. - FSD super cavitation Torpedoe. A fire and forget torpedoe capable of recognising targets. Has the range of about 2 miles at just over the speed of sound. Once launched it deploys its own towed sonar array outside of the cavitation bubble. Wing Bay - Deployable solid shot cavitation gun. Fires solid dart projectiles at above supersonic speeds. Wing Tip ECM pod, Mine Pod, External Fuel Slug Defence Air Rear flare dispencer situated beside the engines, flares are launched directly into and around the heat dispersal of the engines. Chaff Launcher Radar Jamming Unit situated behind the main hull, full sensor suite comes equipped with radar detection, radar jamming and metal anomaly detector. Defence Water Decoy Dispencer, Each decoy produces an active ping and alot of noise ![]() She also has a full sonar and radar sensor arrangement and the optical equipment can be raised above the water line to act like a periscope. I put alot of thought into the systems before i started as I basically wanted to make something that was futuristic and different but still something that abided by real world physics as close as possible at least

![]() Read about supercavitation a long time ago so it's most definately in keeping within the realms of possibility from what I can recall of the article. Going back to the article I read for a moment it was actually describing a torpedo that had the ability to, through a gas dispersal system fitted in the nose, creating it's own 'bubble' but the issue that was proving problematic was the guidance of the weapon once launched. Clearly your more up to date on the subject than I so I take it they solved the problem. Tom | |

another quick update showing the rear retractable flare launcher and the side retracting chaff dispencer. These systems are dissabled underwater. ![]() @Captain Tom The torpodoe in question is the VA-111 Shkval in the Russian navy's arsenal there is also a variant that they have sold to the Iran Navy. Im thinking in 30 odd years time with an increased need to harvest the oceans these sorts of weapons will become prime killers.

Ninja, I didn't mean that it's meant for a game, but I was asking if you already saw the sub-airplane that Red Alert 3 will use. You might get some ideas out of it You can find a (unfortunately too small) image of the plane on this webpage

Cheers Borg Man I havnt seen that before looks cool though I reckon i can make out what looks like a dual cockpit configuration on that sub possibly a heavy bomber unit of sum sorts. Still waiting on my placement on the beta then ill be able to find out ![]() One of my main inspirations at the moment is the new iron man film I watched it the other night and loved that suit with all its sweet control surfaces

Ok another update, been doing bits and pieces to it in between writing an essay and evaluation stuff ![]() Heres where she stands at the moment, mainly just roughing out weapon placements and cavitation guns deployment. ![]() ![]() In the image above can be seen fuel tank attached, then mine pod and ECM pod at the end. Also attached an animation of the cavitation gun deplyoment.

Decided I wasnt happy with the missile bay arrangement so ive basically redesigned the whole missile launch system that I was using. This system is for air launched missiles only, the torpedoe systems will have there own dedicated launch system. Im finally happy with this system now which now incorporates a rotary launch rack for larger warhead missiles such as the Air to Sea missiles. AA missiles are located on the doors themselves. Comments and suggestions are welcome as always good or bad I take all advice onboard.

Cheers for your Input Berkut I went ahead and increased the rotary racks load out to 5 large missiles, the large space at the side of the missile rack is taken up by the AA missiles once the doors are closed. Its all a very tight and snug fit until the doors open then it sort of unpacks. ![]() Heres another update Missiles modeled and added to the rack. ![]() Missiles from left to right Sea Hawk Anti Ship missile Rapier Low Yield Nuclear Cruise Missile AIM-120E Anti Air
