So far, I've just split them up into different surfaces and blocked out the colours. If I get round to texturing it it won't look as dark as the purity seals and other details will be coloured right and there'll probably be some battle damage, which I'll hopefully do properly with specularity and bump mapping (if I forget to do it properly, someone can kick me).

Black Templars are mostly black and white with red trims and details. Imperial Armour photos can be quite heavily tweaked to make them look more realistic so it's likely that you're just seeing a washed out version. Or are you talking about the cartoon orthos that are in Imperial Armour? In that case I can image they won't be pure black as the detail in the drawings wouldn't show up as well.

Yeah, Im referring to both Photos & Orths from the book, .... I think the colours used in the book would look pretty realistic on a CG model, with that washed out appearence, which would give it a more lived in / used look .. along with paint chips/ dents/ grime buildup in all the right places etc ....

... Not Without Incident ... WIP: 40K Vehicles / 40K Space Marines / 40K Creatures

Due to current Real Life issues, Ive had to stop my CG work atm .. My threads are now temporarily Locked, but will hopefully be back soon, Thank you all for your support !! , ... Jas

Definitely, once I start doing textures it should look less clean. Although one thing I've considered trying, and this can mostly be done with textures and a little bit of modelling, is to make it actually look like a minature rather than a "real" version of the toy.

Looking good Armondikov. Nice to see the recent spate of 40K stuff. Can I ask that you post future pics without textures? So much easier to see all your hard modelling work when she is naked.

Very nice coloring. Is there any chance I could get you to use the colors based off of my SM faction?

I have my predator annihilator here for an example of what I'm looking for...

It's just block colouring rather than textures, I like it when models have a bit of colour to them, all WIPS seem to be a dull grey and it's nice when people add a little tint to the default surface colour.

That's because it's so much easier to see surface detail with no textures (procedural or otherwise). All I can see in your coloured shot is a black and white cube.

I'd check your monitor configuration, it's not that dark
