USS Calidorn - Take umm (I've actually lost Count)

Hey all,

Well, this is one I've tried modelling so many times that I've actually lost count.

Initially designed for a PBeM Role play game, and now slated to appear in the latter 2 of a planned Trilogy of movies.

C&C Welcome

Looks really nice and unique Everything seems to be smooth and very detailed The aztec plating paint seems a bit weird in some places but that's nothing big. Can't wait to see how this one turns out. Hopefully you will finish it

Fitter, Happier And More Productive ...

Now where have I seen those Phaser designs before?! They look a bit too small really, for the design, if they are still phasers, as the Type X strips are much larger in scale.

Looks good, but you want to try and get the pattern of the panelling and the grid lines to coordinate. I'm not fond of the corner grid lines, it's not really working. You could always try and do a very low relief modelled hull plate design stencilled on, and vertibevelled out, to build your maps out from. They should be working in tandem!

Without knowing the function, I'd say you should have some more windows, and some recessed window round the thing, and the odd few more details. Lights, transporter pads, cargo bay doors etc.

Keep up the good work!

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

re: Phaser design, *looks at ceiling and whistles* Hehe.

Hope you don't mind that I used them for inspiration, (you may notice slight similarities in the details of the insets on the main hull too.)

As for the phaser size, I think it's more the phaser strips that are too large. The ones that I *ahem* borrowed are Pulse phasers, like the Defiant, only a little more interesting looking.

The shield grid, yeah, I've never been able to get that right, I will probably rebuild the whole thing.

Windows, yes, there will be more, and more hull surface detail (lights etc.) , I needed a break from the modelling so had a play with the main hull texturing.

The idea behind the ship is that it is based on one of the aborted Defiant Class Prototypes, designed specifically for combat. Once the Dominion threat was discovered, the design was finalised and pushed into Special Forces service.

@Tobian : I know you're busy with Pluto Station, but could you possibly show an example of what you mean with the hull plating you mentioned? I think I know what you mean, just need a little clarification

Thanks

No not really - it's nice to be able to inspire people

I just meant physically model the panel lines. Not to go As far as I have with my station, just slice them using a mask, then bevel them out using multishift/vertibevel. You also could do with microbeveling the edges of your hull grid too, to catch the light Geometry panels also help with the texturing too!

Small update.....

Well I say small, it's take the best part of the day to get this right.

re-worked the hull plating/panelling completely.....vast improvement IMO.

And for the record, @ Tobian, I may never forgive you for the amount of point editing it took to get this far. Damn you and your suggestions LOL.
