Thanks to you all. It's always risky to change something (especially the colour) as some may like it and others won't. I think I'll do a green sort-of-camouflage version when I'm a bit further on but I think that the green and orange/beige contrast to much to fit together all that well. As for the screenshots, I always try to show the parts that I worked on and hide the parts that are currently a mess .I worked over the main body but without segmenting any more yet. Softening the edges and refining the shape is a bit fiddely and the plug-in I wanted to use for beveling the edges isn't as automatic or allmighty than I had hoped. I am still doing most of the shapes on foot. The wings now also have exhausts on the underside but the engine and back part are still pretty much underdeveloped. I only changed the jet colour from blue to orange as the blue worked very good with the green ship but turned to purple with the orange ship and that looked rather stupid ![]() I'll also have to do something about the wing tips where the blades are connected to as these are also very plain. I'm not quite sure if I'll get away with putting holes into the backwards facing plates as I did with the blades but I'll have to test that out.

Thanks, I think it is important that things (especially spaceships) have to look similair to something that people know. This makes them fit better into the real world and makes them more believable. The big battleships form Darius were always pretty cool, although they looked a bit too much like the fishes they were inspired from. But I think all marine life works good as spaceship design - so familiar and yet so strange (especially the deep sea variety)

This is a small update after a couple of weeks for which I did the engine exhaust jets. I like doing the exhausts because they add a lot of character to a spaceship / aircraft and they are fairly simple to do while still looking pretty cool. Radiosity works well here for a nice glow effect but I will still need to add jets of plasma being emitted from the engines. I also increased the separation of the side plates of the wings because I figured I could use a little bit more space for the bombs and that it would look better to increase the wingspan of the Poseidon. I will add further structure to fill the gaps on the wing tips / blade bases.

Hi elohim, that's actually pretty simple. I've attached a closeup of the exhaust from the modeler. The exhaust is just a hollow tube with one end open and the other end closed off. I set the closed off part of the tube with a surface that is luminous at a very high value (1600% in this case). This is the white surface in my example picture. When using radiosity / final gathering this surface will then light up the engine from the inside. The more bounces you set in your radiosity calculation the better it usually looks. In addition to that I set the color of the luminous surface to red:255, green:32, blue:24. Because this value is multiplied the resulting color will be white because all colorchannels exceed the normal colorspace that goes from 0 to 255. The light intensity falls off the further away from the luminous surface it goes and also every time the light is bounced from a surface. This will reduce the luminous value of the light color bringing it inside of the normal color value and making the engine glow from white to a very hot orange into red and then fading out.

This ship design is wicked! I love the colors and the outline. It's definitely got a retro 70s scifi feel to it while using contemporary motifs. Sweet shiat, man!!
