Well here is a "little" update, I have added the neck greeble the "vocabulator" I believe it is called.

Not to sure about the shoulder piece, going to redo that as its not quite right, too much of a gap between his arm and the side of the body.

I also made some adjustments to the chest and blocked out the back of his torso (without the main greeble)

Well more to come soon and a much better update I promise...

Cheers,

Wiz.

Are you using the suggested method of Building a human frame for the Suit ? ... If you went that way you would KNOW that a human would fit into it without having to keep adjusting the position of things, ... You would save alot of time guestimating proportion if you had that as a guide, and would help with your Organic modelling too.

The details on the suit are secondary to the size and position of each piece, ... and would be better off creating the entire suit first, ... step back and take a look at it, .. make the necessary adjustments before detailing each piece .... again this is only a suggestion ....

Doctor: "Don't worry Paul, everything's going to be alllllll right ..."

Wiz: "Wait a minute, ... what are you doing ?, ... I'm not modelling that way, .. its much too difficult, .. this way's much easier, ...What makes you think better methods are over there ?? ....."

Doctor: "NURSE !! .... 300 milligrams of Thorazine !! "

Wiz: "I'VE BEEN MADE TO SUFFER, .. ITS MY LOT IN LIFE ,.... I'VE BEEN MADE TO SUFFER, .... ITS MY LOT IN LIFE .... I've been... I've ...I've ...... "

Hey Binkerman,

I see the men in white coats waiting just around the corner, but so far I am managing to keep them at bay.

I had actually done some body meshes (parts rather than an whole) to familirise myself with the process of modely a human character, but do think (as you quite rightly reminded me) it would be better to bite the bullet and model a body and have that underneath to build on top of to ensure proportions are correct (I just got impatient hehe)...

So off I go, back soon...

"Artoo Detoo where are you!?"

I'm afraid the R2 Patients are in the Next Ward, .. You're just going to have to mingle with the 3PO patients, ... They're not hard to spot, ..... They walk around with their arms out at right-angles, shuffling their feet quoting lines from the saga, ... Don't worry they're quite harmless ....

Though there was one case where a patient managed to get hold of some Gold spray paint, that stripped off .. and well, ... It was both sad and disturbing to see, ..... Not only that, but he Gate-Crashed a ward holding the Wizard of Oz patients, ... with the Tin Man shouting profanities such as "OIL CAN, ...OIL CAN ...." ..... and I think the 3PO guy took it personally .... I wont go into the details, ... but it got quite ugly ...

You brought it on yourself Wiz by creating a high Quality R2, .. Now you're going to have to match that quality with 3PO

Lol Binkerman u crack me up

Damn you guys and your expectations, pushing me to improve and to do things right... and now you want me to shoot people, what is the world coming too, kids walking around with knifes, and now gun toting artists... oh boy...

Ok, well one of the (real) artists at my office took pity on me and very kindly borrowed me a book:

Amazon.co.uk: Edgeloop Character Modeling for 3D Professionals Only: Kelly L. Murdock, Eric Allen: Books

And browsing through it it looks the bee knees and is exactly what I need, so I have ordered it, however in the meantime I loaded in a character mesh (from the accompanying CD with the book) and did some quick proportion fixes on the upper torso (I couldnt wait for my own body mesh :P) so here is as ever a little update.

Ok I am going to go away now and study the book and create the base body for Therepio and come back with a vengeance (or a whimper, depends on how I get on hehe), also here is a wire of the torso

Yeah looking at that it's going to need a lot of tweaking. One thing you always have to remember is Anthony Daniels was inside that thing! Hence unless he has elastic shoulder joints he's going to find it difficult to fit in hehe. If you don't have one, produce a very basic human in MakeHuman and then model it to fit it. I believe in Maya you can create locked layers so you can put the human model in one layer and the bot in the other.

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

Yeah, I am going to model a base human figure underneath to act as my guideline, and go from there

You can do the layers thing in Max too, so should make life easier

Cheers,

Wiz.
