This is looking really awesome! Seeing your R2D2 droid, it will look superb at the end, no doubt.

I'm myself looking for a model like this I can use in my 3D programs. You plan on making it available to download when you are done?

I am planning on releasing Artoo soon, just setting up a simple rig (rather than hard posing him) but first sending him to a few people who wish to use the little fella, and then I will make R2 public for all to play with / improve

Very cool... I've always found this design pretty "retro", making it a classic of sorts. You are doing an excellent job on this.
