BSG: Ares Class Warstar Hi all, First post, hopefully of many. Anyways here is the begining WIP of my Ares Class Warstar. I was trying to make a ship a little more on the battleship side for the colonials. Make sense that they would be experimenting with the gun/fighter combo as they advanced the battlestar design. Seeing as how this ship will have more guns she probably would not fair well herself outside of an organized battle group. Come on with the feedback!

| SFM Obsessed | I have to agree, that is way to much texture. Nice shape though. |

from the center to the back it lokks kind of too bulky you should try to bring down the size a little if she's a warstar she needs maneuverability. the engines are too far apart for colonial military ships they should be nice and tight together as for the overall design she looks good you're on the right track.

Ok, here is little of an update. I started to shave the back down, added a little detail and some markers. Having a trouble coming up with engine shapes, the ship has a landing bay on top so I can't pull the engines too close together. For the engineering hull I am leaning to a more rounded connection spot for the engines (like the idea Backstept used on his Colonial Guardian). Any suggestions would help me out a lot.

I have to keep in mind that this is your idea coming to life, but im really not feeling the War star. It was always my understanding that a Warstar was almost double the size of a Battlestar. If you wanted to keep the back end bulky, think about balanceing out the ship and bulk up the front end. Keep on trucken.

Candva your ship looks good but the back is still too bulky and the front to thin adding a little in the front and shaving a little on the back should balance her out so that her displacement fits right on like a glove. a warstar its not necesarily larger than a battlestar this type of ship is a battleship meant to support a battlestar group and her size should be close to or similar to a battlestar but with more weapon emplacements and other support systems like missile tubes and ecm counter measures. the hangar bay idea is perfect she should be able to carry two shuttles and a hand full of raptors for recon and support. perhaps you should consider picking up tips from the demosthenes destroyer built by Hobbes posted on this site the ship is great and many of her elements could be of great help on your model. so far you done great work and the engines seem pretty ok perhaps you could try the design specs of the battlestar minerva class and its variations created by Tanj also available on this site his battlestar models are impressive maybe you can pick up some ideas from there too the engines on his ships are cool. other than that great work you are on the right track.
