Resurrection of the beast.

With all the love BSG is getting lately I looked upon some of my old memories of another spaceship. (no pun intended)

What I found where some old recordings of the series Star Blazers (Officially known as "Space Battleship Yamato"). Needless to say I was struck by a strong wind of nostalgia feelings. However upon looking at how the ship looked I started to doubt if what I was doing was actually worthwhile. Mostly because of the dated looks of the ship.

So I looked at how Galactica tackled the item and started to work on a more up to date design.

Anyway, here is my current progress on this beastie.

hmmm, I loved that show. But there is still a strong and astounding resimbalance. Honestly im trying to brain storm on what could be done to it and still maintain a retro feel to it. Give me a few days and ill throw together some rough sketches.

As a HUGE fan of Starblazers / Space Cruiser Yamato might I recommend some sources of reference for your re-imagining endeavor:

ヤマト製作記 DO楽DO

ヤマトメカニクス画像掲示板

夏になると訳もな*宇宙戦艦を描きた*なりません?

LightHouse-メカニックス

xzarno on deviantART

Though what would be interesting would be a crossover design using elements of the re-imagined BSG and Starblazers.

Anyhow, I hope these links help or at very least are as enjoyable to you as observing them is for me.

change the elements

The main problem with the starblazers designs is that they are meant to fight a 2d battle on water and somehow in space. You must update them to fight in a 3d environment like space. Also the ship seems to be too long, your main guns are too far away from the bow of the ship etc.

I really enjoyed starblazers and also captain harlock when it was on here in my part of the states waaaaaay back. There was a version of captain harlock on the air that did not include that queen millenia mix up. I can't find that specific version of the show or any other version either because they have been lost to junk bond limbo in the 80's darnit.

Anyways consider that the ship should be made to fight in a 3d environment so some of those bubble turrets on the sides maybe can be on the underside somewhere? Also try changing those crazy wings/fins make them different shorter something I dunno lol but different. Of course that wave motion gun gets to stay hehe:-)
