I understand keeping thickness, but was thinking primarily of the leg length...

Heh. Well, I made something of a judgement call on it, primarily thinking to the various optics available to the pilot and co-pilot. I had thought about doing the windshield thing, tho. It just didn't seem to fit for me (seemed like it'd make the pilots rather vulnerable as well)

In many of the illo's the legs are longer, I just feel that making them any longer would turn the legs into an obstacle. Keeping them about this length(possibly even shorter) makes more sense from an engineering stand point. There's no issues with getting the body further off the ground to clear obstacles, and at this length, the time for each leg to make it's rotation for locomotion seems to make sense considering the 80mph top speed (remember that, when dealing with any kind of walker, the speed at which the legs are able to rotate to provide forward momentum is far more important than their length, and the longer the legs, the more time is required for proper rotation).

Heh... okay, maybe I'm over-rationalizing here

I just like 'em this way.

Well, I've already got an old-style SAMAS done. I'm probably going to be using this model either for the cover piece of the next Rifter Zero issue or for some of the interior pieces. Possibly pit him against my Ulti-Max...
