Dyson-Yoyodine Intra-System Transport

Do you get what it is from the title yet? I'm a big fan of the dark ages of space exploration, the unwritten lost history of scifi. Things like the DY-100 interest me. The dangerous and heroic days of early interstellar exploration. Remember, it's the first dangerous voyages of exploration that are written about in epic and song, not the family trip on a jumbo jet centuries later.

I was roaming through some rocket webpages when I stubbled upon these awesome images. They are not mine but they greatly inspired me.

I thought the submarine look of the original was not practical.. so I took a mesh I got from Trekmeshes and just took it apart. About the only thing that remains from it is the general hexagonal shape of the main hull and part of the bow. I added some much needed attitude control trusters, and mated a Space Shuttle body on top for a more realistic crew compartment. The rest is almost random and organic.

Here are the WIP pics.

The DY-300 model I just tried to make it the same tech level as my huge explorer and Anti-matter ship.

Those are some really nice ships I think the DY300 is the best of the bunch. It looks very beliveable and different from the other ships. However, if you're using parts from downloaded models, I think you will have to credit the original creators

Well at the moment I'm quite sleepy so I'll post what I know a little bit later about the original models.

Cool reimagined DY ships.

They are very nice. I think though for me, they look like variations of the Botany Bay from Star Trek.

No one say anything... We have a winner

Interesting takes on the design there The biggest one (on the right in the all versions image) is the one that looks the best to me

Nice touch with the deflector dishes. The DY-300 does look especially cool and it's great to see the DY series getting some attention.

I've been tossing and turning and couldn't sleep with a brainstorm. At the moment my comp is rendering a 3 second animation that is taking sofar 8 hours to do 7 frames of 45.. so all I have is time.

The original DY-100 was shaped so that it was possible to 'complete' the octagon shape of the cargo pods behind the conning tower. Should I do the same? It would mean cutting in half the top crew compartment or moving it forward and lengthening the hull as well. Only problem with this is that it would complicate things in getting the damn thing into orbit. <=== Why? How? well this is the animation I am working on at the moment. I like to be comprehensive in my designs. Not only do make a model, I'm obsessive enough to try and building a whole infrastructure around it too.

blender

The original blueprints are from Paul Davies, who used to be a member here at SciFi-Meshes.
With his permission, I created a model of his blueprints, using Blender. Mine are the images you found inspiring.
