1st post, 1st ship!

I doubt many of you know of me, but I do a LOT of WWII aircraft modeling on various forums and games. Im trying to branch out a little into space ships. I secretly wish space sims would come back into fashion. I DEARLY miss Xwing vs Tie and Wing Commander series.

Anyways, this is my 1st real concept and model of a space ship. I only have about 3-4 days invested in this, and im looking for some C&C (Critique and criticism) from the Sci-Fi fans here.

Here is the concept. A very light, but offensive space fighter. Original inspiration is the Jedi fighter, but my own take on the class. This is not for Star Wars or any other sci-fi world out there, but my own.

This "mode" is its normal flight or "fast" mode. The engines have two sections. The inner and outer rings are seperate. The inner section is more of an after burner. Takes up a lot of energy, but produces a lot of extra thrust. In this mode, the two main blaster cannons are separated from the engines, and are powerless. There are two light lasers on the center gondola for light duty.

This "mode" is the fighter mode. The engines rotated 90 degrees to link up with the main weapons systems. The inner ring is shut off, and that power is diverted to the weapons. Due to the amount of power, the power coupling cant be routed through the center gondola due to power/radiation/whatever reason I can justify the rotation Also, since a good portion of the rings are blocked, and can no longer cool the engines, two heat exchangers open up on each wing, to help dump the extra heat from the engines.

I still have a long way to go in detailing and texturing the fighter, but the base concept is there. The cockpit also offers the pilot exceptional forward visibility, not offered in most concepts I have seen. Being a fan of WWII aircraft, and the love of sims has taught me the importance of visibility. It drives me crazy to see all these "fighters" with minuscule slats for the pilot to see out of. To me, the Xwing ranks rather poorly in this category. Once a ship goes under the nose, its lost, and forget about leading your target!

Anyways, again. C&C is welcome!

Welcome to the forum, and that's a pretty neat design, I quite like it in both configurations!

It looks very crisply modelled, it just needs a few bits and pieces here and there, and of course a cockpit interior (one of the downsides of great visibility out is great visibility in!) The texturing and weathering on this should sell the design. It's a very good fit for the universe!

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

Thanks. Its a portfolio project, so getting a good texture on it is a priority. Im going full out, with bump and spec maps for it. I may even do a low poly game model with normal maps. I do a lot of freelance work for TV shows and games, but im looking for a full time position at a studio, so this is to help me get that I also need to figure out an easy way of grebling things, like the inner surfaces of the wings. I made a trench there to fill with all sorts of space junk thats often found. Working with WWII aircraft, the shapes are always very smooth, without a lot of clutter. So making clutter is a new things for me.

Welcome to the forum and nice work. Be sure to put credits on your images and you might want to delete the double post. Great start on the mesh.

Dig the creative design with the engine assembly. Nice! By the way, I too miss X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter

Very nice, I especially like the take on power management.

I like it. Very nice design.
Maybe something about the proportions of the rear part vs the front but that's me.

Again good job!

HEY GIBBAGE!

I remember you from the IL-2 days. Loved your P-38 and P-63!

Nice to see you are taking a walk on the sci-fi side for awhile.

Flight configuration on your ship looks real slick. Now you just need to give your ship a name.. awaiting updates....

p.s. - I hope Oleg doesn't nerf your flight model on this thing...
