Well, I took another stab at it, with an eye towards improving the lighting and making it seem like this is a giant, round station, rather than the world's largest greeble-crusted cracker. It's progress...

My inner child got his ass kicked by my inner juvenile delinquent...

err, well you've failed, now it just looks like an even bigger greeble encrusted cracker

Sorry mate.

It'll work better if you either angle down or move the camera much lower

Perhaps square isn't the answer.

The camera's field of view is cone shaped. So if you were to match up the greebles to the shape of the camera you'd be able to save system resources and be able to propagate them further at the same time.

Another trick that can work well, is to do a composite render in stages. Rendering the furthest first and then the closer ones. As long as you don't move the camera everything should line up perfectly.
