If SeanR or NightShadow are willing to do a custom briefing room for this design, that would be awesome, or I might just do it myself. Part of my actual job involves architectural renderings of various kinds of interior spaces; I just haven't ever really applied it to a starship interior before. ![]() | |

That said, I completely agree both with Vektor and Sean- this ship deserves something better than a redress of the Sovvy briefing room. Doing something similar to what Vektor suggested is certainly feasable, but I need you guys to determine which should get the higher priority: the bridge or the briefing room? Ideally, you want the bridge interior to match the shape of the bridge module that Vektor designed. Right now, in all honesty, it doesn't- not even closely. That's a problem, IMHO. |

It may have been a slight redress of the sovey but I was really getting into it. I do understand if we want to make the bridge totally unquie as Grandeur is becoming, and make it fit as the talk is now, I guess something must be done, but I know NightShadow put alot of work into it when he had the time, I am happy with it. I guess it comes down to how bad all of us would like to see the bridge sitting inside the ship. As far as windows I can not recall to many starships that had windows on the bridge, if any. So as far as seeing that from the outside it may not happen regradless. Unless you do some close up top views from the outside looking down with the Dome off. As far as the Briefing Room goes we only had that one picture that was a redress. and of course we had a few pictures left of the old Briefing Room from the orignal Grandeur that Robert "DrBob" Crosswell did. Just throwing my 2cents worth out, whatever you guys want to do or feel needs to be done go for it. |

And the way that the bridge is laid out right now doesn't even come close to matching the one created by Vektor (which, IMHO, is a good thing- Vektor's module seems much nicer to me). One of two things can be done to address this issue: 1) Tweak the layout of the current bridge interior so that the Ready Room, conference room and XO's office will match what Vektor has done. This is doable. Not exactly easy, but doable. 2) As Sean suggested, this ship deserves more than just a tweaked/modified Sovvy bridge set. I think it more fitting that a whole new bridge be designed for this. Either Sean can mock up the design in 2D if he so wishes or someone else can. And I'm fairly confident that I can build something entirely new and unique according to the potentially new design specs. As some of you may or may not know, I've been flexing my 3D modelling muscles lately- two starships AND a full starbase done in just 2 months' time. At this point I sincerely wouldn't mind sinking my teeth into a decent interior bridge set. After all, it's been a good long while since I've done one, y'know? I actually kinda miss it. So take that all with the pinch of salt with which it was delivered- ultimately, it's your ship and your decision. But consider this: if 3 of your primary designers (and I'm including Sean in this since he DID design the bridge and built about 90% of it already) are all saying the same thing independently, in their own ways and for their own reasons, it's a good bet that it's WORTH considering. |

Attached are some recent WIP pics that I did of the bridge and the ready room, to illustrate a few things: namely, it looks more like the Sovvy bridge than anything else and I think we'd all kinda like to work away from that- it's already been done, y'know? Why re-invent the wheel spoke-for-spoke when we can create something completely different? If this is what you want to stick with and if Sean is still monitoring this thread, I humbly request that Sean send me the LCARS and other textures which he originally used on the set. Or should I contact Joe Ralat and ask him instead? Naturally, credits would be applied where they're due, of course. |
