I decided to do a little recreational kitbashing tonight. I combined parts of Tachyon's Miranda model with Gene Kim-Eng's TOS Enterprise, based on a design I saw in the Starship Models store. Voila!

Who in the classroom can tell me why kitbashing is historically a bad idea?
Raise your hand, Billy.

because its made primarily with other peoples models? esp without permissions.. BUT it was recreational and he did credit the sources...

Aha. I see your point, nhall. I'd seen other kitbashing efforts on the net, and I thought it was OK as long as I credited the sources. I hadn't planned on posting the meshes, of course, but is it OK to post the renderings?

For Kitbashing Models you should get the permission of the Builder, think thats one of the Rules posting Pictures.

In my experience, kitbashing is generally addressed in the mesh's readme file. Many files say that changes such as registry numbers and names are okay, but nothing beyond that. (though I have not seen any readme's that specifically say its permissible take apart a mesh, etc)
Regardless of what the posting rules on this or any other board say... I generally wouldn't go posting pictures of anything I bashed up without specifically asking the creator, stating so in the image, and in the attached posting. (this applies to every readme file for any part of any mesh you use.)
Side note; The only time I kitbash something is to get an idea of how a certain layout would look, not to actually create a mesh, such as a Sovereign-X design someone in a chat RPG was whining about wanting. (and yes, it was just as hideous looking as I thougt it would be, no matter how many configurations I tried, which is why it never saw the light of day)

no offense but i've found that most models the creators have got in the readme file that you can post pictures of there model (renderings) and modify them aslong as credit is given, how ever that might not be the case with those models that you kitbashed if it wasnt the case and they gave permission to avoid future problems enter there readme in ur post at least the part given permission

did you really have to dredge up a 3 year old thread just to re-iterate what the above poster said?
Closed. Please review the rules on necro-ing. IE, don't do it.
