Yes, I'm still looking for the Cockpit ... the fullscale model would be nice. I have some Screencaps from the movies but they are not good quality.

Great details. Reminds me of MisterX's X-Wing model from Scifi3D. You are going to texture it right? It would be a shame not to.
his is one of the best ... I don't know if you remember Mike Vertas X-Wing here at SciFi Meshes? Man ... that one was the best :)
I have used most of the same reference mateials like they did ... like the 1/24 Studiosize Model (Mikes X-Wing is completely based on it). I have used that Fine Molds model too. It was good to get the dimensions because I had not the chance to put my hands on the 1/24 Model. I only have pictures of it here.
This Model will be textured for sure :) I'm planing to make 2 or 3 texture versions. Red 5 for Lukes and maybe Red 2 and Red 3.
But before I start texturing I have soo much to do with the model. As you have seen I have started to optimize the model (new Nose)
It now needs a Cockpit and a Landing gear ... and an Astomech Droid :)
So ... lots of work left :)
Again ... thank you all for your kind words

Impressive work Chris. Especially impressed with how many polys you managed to shave off the nose without any noticable loss of detail.
This all is modeled in Cinema 4D ... it has a thing called HyperNurbs. Its not NURBS but a kind of SubD. I had too much of subdivisions on the first nose and the edges were to "soft". That I have corrected in the new one.

You *will use Gavin Darklighter's paint job for this x-wing...
That is-Krayt Dragon on the front, eyes for torp launchers and teeth (Like the A-10 paint job that is so popular).

You had to remodel the fuselage, and then you had to rework the canopy bec of fuselage re-work. The R2 socket needed to be resized, which left the engines out of place; then fixing the stabilizer foils....:p so in other words a new x-wing :D
Looks great, but in order to pass judgment, we need to see it textured and painted and all that *hint*...can you add the rogue squadron patch to the s-foils? (i can make it for you, if you want)

I'm guessing you stayed clear of ngons on the older mesh?
Nice work on the new mesh. How different is it in terms of dimension and shape? Clearly the recessed lines are finer between panels.

no ... in both meshes are no ngones ... I'm on C4D 8 with no support of ngones.
yes ... the lines are finer and her butt is a bit smaller ... its now more accurate to the filming model.

Are you using the hero filming model (1/24th), the pyro model, or the uber-scaled X-Wing that was supposed to be used in ROTJ as your reference? Just curious.

yes, the torpedolauncher is not finished jet ... I'm very unhappy with it because its a mess in Cinema 4D 8 to make good looking holes :) But I'm working on it.

My reference is the 1/24 Filming Model ... the Hero Model. The big problem is that Red 2 looks different to Red 5 that looks different to Red 3 and so on ... so this model will be a base model which can be used for modifications then.
As far as I know they have never used the "big" X-Wing in the movies but I'm not sure.
I'll second what was said on the torpedo launchers. Here's the X-Wing from the touring exhibit.
Yes ... I have some good ref shots of the torpedolauncher too and it will be "repaired" as soon I figured how to make it in C4D :)
and the best is ... the Star Wars Exhibition comes to Belgium / Brussels in 2 weeks ... which is only 2h with the car from here (YEAH!) so I will be able to my own ref material :)
Again, thank you all for your comments

Beautiful as always Chris, nice work ;)
Dude, you gota upgrade, N-gons are lovely to work with, keeps the mesh sooo clean. I've only ever used R9 and 10, but I've never had to many problems with cutting holes, it allows you to turn the cut poly into n-gons, meaning you get a nice clean cut straight in the middle of a single poly :)

I know that all :) My problem is I can't affort an upgrade to R10 right now ... maybe at the end of this year or so. I have some good tools to make holes like MeshSurgery. Better boole is an option too ... we will see :)

Told you so :D
You had to remodel the fuselage, and then you had to rework the canopy bec of fuselage re-work. The R2 socket needed to be resized, which left the engines out of place; then fixing the stabilizer foils....:p so in other words a new x-wing :D

Thank you for your comment :) The cockpit is on of the holy secrets of ILM / Lucasfilm ;) there was newer a full cockpit to see in the movies. As you can see most parts are from the Film model ... the back part of the cockpit for example with it pipes and the seat. You can also see the target monitor in the front as seen in EP6 :)
I'm not sure about the botton colors too but at the end noone will notice them when Canopy is closed and a Pilot is sitting in :)

That is an Excellent Model Chris ... Well Done on getting her finished !!! :thumb: ... For some reason I thought you used MAX, ... But with regards to Textures, the principle is pretty much the same no matter what App you use and there are a ton of texturing Tutorials online, though I find it Amazing that C4D doesn't have some sort of texturing function ?, ... I've never used C4D, just find it strange that your version which isn't that old cant unwrap a model ? ....
When you do get something to texture with, being new to that area id suggest building something very basic to practice assigning material IDs, Unwrapping, Texturing, and just general playing about & experimenting with the types of surfaces & effects you're wanting for your X-Wing, ...Damage, Worn Paint, etc .... rather than jump straight to your prized model.

hey Jas ... thank you very much for the kind words :)
yes, its a mess that an application like C4D (ok, its about 6 or 7 years old) don't have a UVMapper. Anyway ... it has some basic texturing tools as you can see in the cockpit.
Making textures is not that hard thing but makeing a good UV map for the X-Wing will be a hard challenge (I never made a UV Map). When I have UV Mapper Pro I will see what will come over me :)
Meanwhile I will come up with a new model this evening ... so keep your eyes open ;)

This is really awesome work there.
One point on the astromech, ever thought of making alternate domes for them? As far as I know, the X-Wing can use any astromech from the R2 to the R5 version, and beyond (maybe not the R4). I think it would add a customization detail to the ship.
Just my humble two cents. :D

alternate suggestions, if the post is older than 60 days you could send the original poster a private messege about the thread.
