Hi there, I'm taking a break from my fleet project. I'm making the Saratoga from SAAB now and I'm hoping I could learn how to give a sci-fi military ship more details.

Sadly there are only a few reference I could use, mostly came from this website : SPACE ABOVE AND BEYOND the Bitter End (http://web-worthy.com/saab/).

So this is the Saratoga WIP, C&C are welcome :)

The Ike fly by in "Sugar Dirt" is probably one of the best New Hope interpretations ive ever seen

I've added more details to the hangar pods area. Its kinda difficult to make the upper hull since I have to rely on blur images of the ship, The area around the superstructure is also quite hard to imagine  . Well, I'll keep on trying to add more detail until I ran out of imagination :D .

Here's some close up on the hangar pods.

I've made some of the top hull greebles and I'm planning to give them more details. I also have some problems with smoothing edges during import to Blender since I done most of the modeling in Wings3D.

I'm planning to make both the Saratoga variants and the Eisenhower variants (this one has 2 kinetic weapons with more weapons).

That's awesome! The more I see this the more I wish that show wasn't cancelled. It was so awesome. It was pretty popular too, so I don't know why it was cancelled... :(

Saratoga just anther verson of flying brick ship like to see more sleek ships

I actually never thought of it as a 'brick'. It's profile is too think and it's long. I always equated it to a sled. It's not my favorite design but becuase it's from one of my favorite show's I like it. :) Plus there's so good modelling going on ;)

Sleek is overated and actually not even required in space, big heavy industrial ships ftw, ISDs, Omegas, Saratoga, BSGs:lol:

Fat bottom girls are better then fancy dan dainty ships(at least when it comes to spaceships):flippy:

But on a serious note, are you planning to add the big broadsiding seige gun? Looks like a giant Civil War Dalhgren gun and was best featured in "Sugar Dirt"

Probably, I have little reference on both the Saratoga and the Eisenhower variant. Basically they share the same hull, the only differences lies on the weapons layout. I'll work on those guns after I satisfied with the details on the Saratoga variant :D .

I've made some modification on the superstructure and added more details. I have to fix those nasty mesh error, it doesn't appear in Wings but its pretty visible when I exported it to Blender.

I wish I can see 'Sugar Dirt' again to get a clear view of the Eisenhower :(

I haven't seen this ship in years.

I've been looking for my VHS ones since November. I hope I haven't got rid of them. If I can't find the tapes, I hope the series is on DVD.

The programme was cut short. Isn't the need for ratings a great idea. LOL :)

Wow thanks a lot Brad, I could use this reference. I'll try to focus on the top greeble this time. ;)

I've added more details to the top hull including the 15-tubes phalanx missile launchers. I'm wondering what to do with the rest of the empty area, should I add extra greeble or some paneling? I have to admit that I'm not familiar with using texture (let alone texturing a complex model)

There is another variant that has a second "flight deck" type structure on the other side including the long tube thing. The two dorsal missile launchers are moved in front of them.

Just links I pulled off google.

The blueprints for the SCVN are fairly common around the net, should be no trouble finding copies with a bit of googling..

I already have those blueprint in my HD for a couple of years, but thanks for the link anyway. Too bad the blueprints are from the side only, I could use high res orthographic view from all sides  .

Some update, I've added some of the pulse lasers, I'm still struggling with the hull greebles.

Ok, I've added some hull panel tiles on the top of the ship and add some greebles. The poly count is around 60k making it the most complex model I've built so far.

However the panel lines didn't show up when I render it, probably got something to do with the lighting setup in Blender (I used Yafray GI with one photon light behind the camera). Any idea how I can highlight the panel lines?
