This is a Max 8 Convert of BSiata's seaQuest. i redid the textures and added new doors to the hydrosphere launch bays. the ones that came with the Blender file became transparent. What i need help with is adding the windows and torpedo tubes. if i use boolean, it shaders the body because it is an edited mesh. so if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Finally, let me know what you think of the skin. i need help with the color there.

Looks good... take a look at some screencaps or something, might give you an idea about what to do about the skin. I can't remember, but wasn't the a slight bump on it?

Anyway, I'd make the windows either directly on the map you're using, or do them as a texture mask, since I'm assuming that the skintexture is tiled as it appears now.

yes there was a living skin. bumpy as heck

HAHA edit #3
"The titular vehicle in the NBC TV series, the "seaQuest DSV" was a massive deep sea vehicle operated by the United Earth Oceans Organization. The submarine was part mechanical and part organic, allowing it to move with more speed and agility than any submarine before it. Its squid-like shape made it one of the most original submarine concepts ever to come out of Hollywood -- and it was also one of the first sci-fi vehicles to be realized in pure CGI!"

Nice work so far....

I took a few quick screengrabs for you, they aren't brilliant, but hopefully you can see what the skin is like, as for windows, I'll try to get some more grabs a little later.

The Model work isn't mine, so i will have to get in touch with BSiata to see if i can release the 3D max Convert i am using. Thanks for all the help. here are a few updates i have done, including a close up of my WSKRS.

Nadesico
6th Jan 2007, 23:18
The WSKR doesnt look quite right, if you look at the screencaps of the episode "Bad Water" they actually pull apart the a physical prop of a WSKR, you see it's covered in clear plastic domes.

Other then that, good job.

seaQuest! I loved this show. The first season was the best of the three. Looks like you have done a pretty good job creating this model. I'll keep an eye as you work on it further...

There's a closeup of the WSKR Satellite mesh on newcapequest.com, but it's down at the moment.

You can check out my model of it here (http://seafiction.newcapequest.com/sfwskrmesh.html).

Well i tried to get in touch with the creator of the DSV Mesh in blender, and never got a response, so i am going to post it and hope no one complains look for it soon.

On a side note, have any of you read the seaFire or seaFury story's? i am looking for the seaFury story. thanks

Well here are two shots of the Big sQ on the surface. tell me which skin you all think looks more accurate. the more blue one is taken from the coloring of the Atlantis DSV. The black one is from my own observations from season 2 and 3.

Well to be honest, the second version not only looks better, but it's also bound to be truer to the original since Atlantis is merely a fanfic! :D

This is very nice so far, do you have any plans for any of the EVA assets (besides the WSKRS) or other vessels seen?

There has been some debate between Jim Ward (of Atlantis DSV) and I concerning the color of the bioskin. And by debate, I mean him pointing it out and I bobbing my head in agreement. :)

The skin is rather green in normal, full-light conditions. See any of the establishment shots of seaQuest at dock at New Cape Quest. It's kind of a dark, bluish forest green, I'd say. This is the color Jim has used on his textures. The bright blue color comes from the blue lighting just as appears to have been the case on the show. Jim also has a tendency, as do I, to embellish the brightness of the scene over what was done on the show. I believe he used to get a considerable amount of e-mail on this subject at one time. :D

Regarding the seaFury stories, I can't recall exactly what James Maxwell (the creator) got around to finishing. Most of the time he'd pop in and post a teaser scene hinting at some grandiose series. He has created some rather impressive renders over the years (considering he was working out of a very old copy of TrueSpace).

Thanks DGW

Well I promise i have not stopped on the seaQuest, just need to do some more research (I have been re watching the series). so in the meantime, i got bored in US politics tonight so i threw together this. i call this the UEO seaFlair ACSV 9100 (Advanced Combat Submergence Vehicle). She has 4 Combat bays that run the length of the ship. 2 are always submerged and 2 are dry when surfaced. Very basic and Crude tell me what you all think.

'Lo all.

Re the (re)release of any mesh converts, I have no problem with this. Although I spent a fair amount of time on this, I had no purpose for it beyond the fun I got from modelling the thing.
As the scarcity of good diagramatic references became apparent my interest waned, and refocused on other 3D subjects. So, not wanting to leave this project moldering in my mesh folder, I've released it for public use and modification. The only proviso being that others do not claim copyright. I look forward to seeing where others take it.

Oh, Stephan2006, nice work with the texture, looks alot like the procedural texture I was using in blender (how'd you duplicate that so exactly?) Also, the mesh I released was in the fins-extended mode, if you need the fullspeed mode just rotate each fin 15 degrees about the fins' object centers(if these survived the conversion).

Im band from New cape quest for a bad ip... WTF? Iv only been there like once a few weeks ago.

Also its nice to see im not the only one who enjoyed seaquest... Personaly i think seaquest should of had the chance to end gracfully. Finish it at the end of a season and give the writers to wrap things up. Also I really thought seaquest was starting to get on its feet in season 3 really started to get some thing going...

I Don't have any private messages at the moment.

any who... i have not abandoned this project, but with Classes back in full swing, i haven't had much time to do any computer modeling. i do some modeling in my lecture classes <LOL> but outside i am trying to tackle Polar Lights 1/350 USS Enterprise 1701-A, so for the moment, i don't have alot of time. however, i should have the 1701 done in a week or two and i will be devoted to the seaQuest again. If you would like i will post pics of the end result. well thats it for this mornings Post. Night All
Stephan

P.S.
I submitted the 3ds version of the sQ, about a week ago, but this site never posted it. so, i will email the .3ds file apone reQuest.

P.P.S.
If anyone could tell me if they know where i could get a top and side diagram of the seaQuest, (like the magLev screens) it would be a great help for another project i am working on.

Hadn't realized I didn't transfer these to the Soundtrack article on the wiki.

EDIT: Check here, also: seaQuest DSV Art and Designs (http://hometown.aol.com/seaquestmuseum/art.html) Additionally, it used to be that Jim Ward had a large orthographic of the seaQuest on the Atlantis site that he had made. As it doesn't appear to be on the site anymore you might want to shoot him an e-mail request. It may be a few days yet before he replies, though. He's on holiday.

So what refs are you working from again... I have a real hard time finding some, certainly any that seam authentic:(

DGWilliams
30th Jan 2007, 23:51
The Monogram model is sufficiently accurate to serve as a primary reference, and is especially useful if you own the model itself.

The only major differences between the studio model and the Monogram model are the point of the arrowhead and some engine details. You can see these differences by referencing the pictures that have already been linked to and one other, which I need to hunt down and post. I'll try to find it.

SeaQuest is AWESOME!!! Season one was the best, but season 2 had the best uniforms(plus Lonnie Henderson). Season three was dumb.

Canceled technical manual?!

When did this happen?

Season one was really good, season two mostly sucked but had the very best episode. Season three was my favourite but I think I understand why you don't like it.

The Tech manual was cancelled during the run of the series I think.
There are some pics from it in the gallery on New Cape Quest (http://www.newcapequest.com).

Stephan,
The wireframe looks great, and I might have that older seaQuest for you, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for that link. that's amazing! I love finding new seaQuest pics to add to my collection.

I didn't like season three because it seemed too military. They had the submarine fighters and the lady with the chip. They also didn't have Captain Bridger. It just wasn't seaQuest for me without Captain Bridger.

rodglas
28th Nov 2008, 22:25
The groundwork for subfighters was laid out already in 1st season. The most obvious example is the episode "The Stinger." The competition seemed to be all about getting a military contract to build high speed subfighters.

There were also the seaspeeders which were also used as small fast combat vessels (like in "The Regulator").

Funny you should mention SeaQuest, I finished watching season 3 on Netflix Instant Watch (piped through my xbox) yesterday. Was weird seeing Brody in episode 12 when he was killed off earlier. Watching SeaQuest reminded me of the website with an empire and supercavitation. (http://www.empirethefilm.com/html/empire_-_supercav_.html) Woulda been neat to see ships like that in SeaQuest...

Empire started off as seaFire ASV. the first true web series based from seaQuest. but back before fan fiction became popular, they feared getting sued over the series and changed it. it has evolved in to Empire. Atlantis DSV, another web series, is what got me thinking about working on my seaQuest mesh again.

Say, do you have any sea fighter pics, I did watch his series years ago and I'd like to see more of it.

DGWilliams

the first true web series based from seaQuest.

That's not entirely accurate. seaQuest: 2047 (http://www.newcapequest.com/ncq/index.php?name=Content&pid=4) was there first. Sure, they didn't have the kind of shiny graphics that seaFire did, but they were definitely the ones to do it first

Anyway, I'm glad you're back to work on this. It gives me a good excuse to delay building a seaQuest mesh of my own. I didn't have any excuses anymore after those hi-res tech manual scans came out. ;)

Also, season 3 is on Netflix Instant Watch? What? I hadn't heard about that.

Yup! Go to Watch Instantly on the Netflix site and you can watch season 3. You can even pipe it through an xbox 360 if you have a Gold account and upgrade the xbox OS.
